I'm mostly adding new stuff that will require SAPP's lua scripts (sprinting, armor switching etc). The map itself will mostly be the same as the final bigass.

Wait. If this is the final bigass what will your next version be called?

Periodically it cannot be branded as a new bigass since you have stated beforehand we already have access to the final release.

Unless bigass had a baby or perhaps this could be a prequel sort of like the ice age.

It'd be cool if camouflage patterns for your player were unlockable as well.

Here's an ambitious idea: why not set up a per-user stats tracking system on the official server, to keep up with things like playtime, kills, or "achievements" for individual players?

Some Vietnam-era tigerstripe camo would be stunning :)

Can unique identifiers be assigned to specific players though? I don't see why not, but I'm curious how that'd work.

I've not worked with lua so I don't know how feasible this is, but I would let players pick a name and password on joining. If lua doesn't like large files, could you have a single database that references different files? Then make a file for each player with a list of what they do and don't have.

I know that with 1.10, players are now identified (and can be banned) by their CD key hash, among other things. I believe SAPP has had a method for retrieving CD key hash for a while now, but I'm unsure.

Wasn't Sparky talking about some kind of lua-based login system with servers in his thread, which requires a password and whatnot? I don't know if it's anything worth looking into, though.

Keep in mind that majority of HCE players don't have legal CD keys.

They likely won't be sharing keys though so keyhash should work.

Well, there are players who use the same CD key, and when the player gets banned by Hash, then the other player with the same key will meet the same fate.


With the stats thing, Lua scripts and SAPP may possibly do the thing, but how?

And for weapon skins, probably they could be in commendation like form, like unlockables or such.

I maintain the position that players should aquire their own legally attained and unique CD key from the official source, the Microsoft Store, and any complications that are encountered regarding CD keys would be the responsibility of the key owner. I have two legit keys, one for myself only, and one I have shared amongst three other people through the years.

Name - CDHash combo. Also keep track of IP dates; if someone shows up in the US, china, then US again on the same day, its obviously multiple people with the same key and name, and just stop monitoring them, leaving them a message that due to their piracy, and non-uniqueness of usernames, they cannot be correctly tracked.

And, if it cannot handle large files, just use a database instead; SAPP can execute things on the host OS. A central server like that is better in the first place, since it can be shared across multiple game servers; you just setup constraints where the database does not accept absurd values, for if/when the lua script goes public.

I said that skins will most likely not be in the map since I can't get them to work without messing up reloading and stuff.

There are mostly good ones but a small amount of obnoxious bad ones.
