Even though it wasn't the best year for things, will we get a top 50 for 2013?

I have a question. Lumoria (the complete version) is rated 8.8 and is not on the list of single player maps for 2012 or 2013. What qualify's a map to be on the list, is there other things then just its average rating?

Was it an 8.8 when the list was made?

I know one thing me and MoooseGuy ran into in 2012 when Firefight Descent had a high rating, we learned that at least 20 people must have voted on the map for it to appear on the list.

So if Lumoria has a 8.8 but only 19 people voted for it, it won't be on the list.

The list is not a cumulative rating at that time but is the mean rating for the votes recorded in that year. It takes 10 votes within the time period of the list (year) to register as an eligible map.

OK. My apologies. Thanks to Higuy's reasonable question I took a look again at how the ratings were compiled and like I said before they are not a cumulative rating at that time but are the mean rating for the votes recorded in that year. It takes 20, not 10 votes within the time period to make a map eligible for listing.

However in 2011 I created two new single player sections and those new sections were not included in the top 50 listing. I have corrected that oversight and the listings for 2011, 2012 and 2013 are now correct and include the new single player map sections. The modified and multi-player listings remain the same.

This is why Lumoria was not included in the listing for either year, I inadvertently excluded the section those files were in.

Just be wary of coming too close to hypocrisy. Violating one's own rules has this annoying tendency to undermine authority

You really don't get it do you? Regardless of anyone's perceptions this, like every single forum on the internet, is a benevolent dictatorship. Dictators have no rules but the ones they set for others.

He can do whatever he want to, if you don't like it, create your own forum.

Done and done, albeit with an entirely different premise. Ended up handing it off to someone else :)
Make no mistake, I'm not being contrary to be stereotypical rebellious teen; moreso out of the knowledge that I've gleaned playing an extremely similar role in the past.

I don't recall ever saying that wasn't the case. What I do remember saying is that if you replace 'benevolent' with 'hypocritical' then you start to bleed members regardless of what standards you might set for yourself discretely. As a moderator your role is to set the example. Once that example becomes blatant defiance and circumvention of the established rules, well, the people following it won't be better for it, I'll tell you that. I speak from firsthand experience and observation in this regard - If you build it, they will come, but only if it's worth staying for. I'm just cautioning you to keep it that way.

Dennis doesn't need to set an example of not double posting because you can't double post anyway

You quoted my post and heavily paraphrased it to convey an entirely different and self-demeaning message. How clever. Congratulations.

I'm not really commenting on that. The double posting is pretty minor and honestly trivial; my motive has more to do with disputing this notion that if one is hosting something they can stomp over all the rules and not suffer any ramifications in terms of respect or user retention. I think you can just look at any of the more drama-heavy CE servers and see that's anything if not the case.

PS: Dennis, would really appreciate you not banning me here. I realize I'm kinda traveling dangerously upstream here but it's been a nice discussion so far.

The assumptive object here is that one cares about those things. The basic fact is that the owner of the forum can do whatever he pleases. Whether what he pleases to do is conducive to obtaining his objective is a completely different matter. What I have learned is that if you accept the basic fact then it is easier to get along rather than assuming you have some authority over the situation. The second basic fact is that each forum member has at the core two options. Stay or Go.

Every forum starts with the basic fact. Then by choice either hides or distributes authority in such a way as to give the perception of democracy. But the basic fact remains that the forum owner has the final say. That is clearly a dictatorship. I prefer to do away with the perceptions and say what it really is. A benevolent dictatorship.
