I think the Nürburgring would be a decent race track for Halo, and was wondering if it was also possible to do some heavy scripting to emulate manual gear transmission (lore fanatics I don't care if the Warthogs could only be IVT automatics - this is for gameplay, adds a level of challenge to the gameplay). Would it also be possible to implement an e-brake, similar to the H2/H3 incarnations with the back tyres locking up? Maybe even replace the normal brake altogether, because I'm pretty sure nobody uses it.
EDIT: And forthose wondering about non-race gametypes, the entrance to the race track could always be used, or maybe even a section of forest in the middle of the circuit heh. Edited by Bottletopman on Oct 24, 2013 at 07:59 AM

Oh I have no idea how to create a map in Halo CE - the scripting and texturing is way out of my league, I know what tools to use but the problem is I have absolutely no clue as to how to operate them. This was more of a concept that someone else could take up if they wanted, the circuit is very modular so it could be possible to restrict the play area to certain areas of the track.

Manual Gears? Maybe E-Brake? Pretty sure it's been done, at least somewhere. As for non-race types, probably best not to bother. You'd need all your polys to make the track as good as you can. Just make it either have the same spawns as race, or just don't support other gametypes.

Non-race types could still be supported with the play area restricted to sections of the map OR a separate area in the middle of the track - where the forest is...wait no, OF COURSE, the Nurburg Castle!! The awesome thing is it's on a hill, so if you were to look over the walls you'd get a very lovely view of the track and surrounding countryside. If the polys become too much to handle, couldn't portals be used so the game doesn't render everything at once?

You could convert the Nordschleife track from rFactor if you don't wanna make it from scratch. And instead if using Warthogs you could get some cars ripped from Forza ingame, lower LODs have reasonable poly counts. I got one ingame and it works great. I don't think manual transmission scripting would be possible but I haven't tried scripting in years so my opinion doesn't matter much, hah.

that might work great. rfactor limit wise is pretty similar to halo.

Gotta remember that I have no modding experience whatsoever, I just posted this as a concept somebody else could take up if they wanted. There HAS to be a carousel! Heck, could even put the carousel into the GP track if the nordschliefe one is too big!
