Hey mates.
First off, I'm new, so hello, nice to know you all....


I've always liked Covenant VS Marine AI action on MP maps. Unfortunately, there weren't many such maps on the HaCE maps site.
Disappointing, but it got me thinking; I decided to try a hand at HEK and Sapien, deciphered all the gibberish, and managed to make a few first attempts at adding AI.



I continued on with other custom (and original) MP maps. The aim was to add the good ol' Covie and Marine battles, with no pimpy weapons, boosted banshees or weird warthogs. Just good, plain war. To add to the effect I decided to add wounded bipeds as well. The result: Some beep-awesome AI maps!

Of course, I if want to remake all the other good maps out there, I need a team. A BIG ONE.

So anyone willing to help as a beta-tester, scenery/bipeds maker, or even adding AI itself, is welcome to join. PM me! You can even request Ai for a map. Remember: if its custom, put up a link to the map download page, not just its name.

I'm curious to know how the BG map was scripted.
Same for ratrace, I haven't seen bipeds that chat and engage in combat before.

But I don't see how any of this is relevant to my post

If you're asking about the AI placements, I think BG seems best. The Ratrace and FloodV2 maps have too much weirdness going on (lucario with a minigun? Seriously?)

Also agree that it'd be awesome if we could get AI to sync online. But I don't see how its possible without rewriting the whole infrastructure of the game.

They have since been updated to not be so chaotic, just haven't found a good time to make a vid of it.

Plus, I just put Lucario in there as an easter egg. Gonna remove him.

All the chat was scripted, so it's the same line over and over, but Uneven Elefant's randomizer will help me with that.

Looks interesting, but the blue team seems to have way too many AI.

No, Kirby has a way, though you'll need to commit some exorcisms after implementing it.


Exorcisms? Erm, am I missing something, cause I've no idea what that's supposed to mean
Went to the links, but that still doesn't help me; I need AI to sync across networks. Obviously one has to edit the source to get Halo to send data packets that include AI positions as well as player positions.

But this is going waaaay off-topic; have any of you guys tried out my maps? I'm uploading gephyrophobia tomorrow. Think you'll find AI movements there interesting.

There is a flag (either directly in the weapon, or you can use a built in global variable to force it on all weapons) that forces projectiles to sync; "Disable client-side projectiles" flag in the trigger, or the global 'allow_client_side_weapon_projectiles' set to false. Any projectiles in the map will now be sent from the host to the clients, so the AI's shots are now visible.

For displaying the biped, you want a vehicle; just create a new vehicle, give it the model and animations for the biped. A simple script, attach and detach the vehicle from the AI; while the vehicles detached, its location will be sent to the clients, so they will see the AI there. There is plenty of here and there little other things you can do, but thats the main idea; the clients will see the AI and their projectiles.

I've managed to do it, but my maps always exception for other people so I can't test it...
Thanks to Kirby, it's health increases when there are more players.

Really? Guys? We're talking about halomap orgies and monthly periods now?
Also, replying to Kirby, after watching that video I suddenly do not want AI synchronization Truthfully, the plasma rifle there was moving faster than the elite itself. I don't think that will appeal a lot to Halo players out there (apart from that epic comic effect of the plasma rifle hovering around the map and the elite behind it ). But seriously, tell meh what you think of the AI maps made by me so far.

So basically, different flood, covie and marine ai variants in each room? Okay, that can be done. Easily. It'll be ready by thursday.

Truth be told I'm just not seeing the point of this without AI sync...were someone to want to add AI to a map it's a simple matter of opening up Sapien and tailoring it to their desires. The average newbie modder, however, will not know how to make it multiplayer compatible.

Yes, well, a large number of average Halo CE players tend to download a map that suits them without getting into Sapien. I know. I was one of them. Truth is, a majority of gamers firstly would rather request/download maps like these instead of than doing-it-themselves. Why? Because its too much trouble learning the whole damn thing, especiallu if you have other things to do in your life.
But I guess you have a point. Hey, I'm just adding AI, you're welcome to make 'em sync yourself. If the synchronization gathers appeal (maybe it will ) I will start with that aswell.
My aim was to add AI to make single-multiplayer maps with good ol' war.

Yep, I got 'em. Yet to add them to the current maps, but I'll do that soon.
Can you, by any chance, make some wounded elites/grunts/jackal bipeds as well?

Also, I want to convert a few civilian bipeds into actor_variants holding various guns (SMG, assault rifle, plasma rifles, pistols etc.) but I'm a novice at '.actor' definitions. Can you link a tut or something by which I can make actor definitions for new characters (eventually I want to make new actor_variants) using Guerilla?

I animated an elite, sitting, heavily breathing then doing a "go away" action with his right arm...

But sadly most of my recent animations all get the "node index failed" exception upon export.

-possible things that could possibly be affecting this...

-The use of my modified version of TheGhost's GBXmodel importer. (To fix the issues of loading textures into the material editor, even though it doesn't work). <---- I'm doubting this is the issue, but it may be?

-Something else has lost the plot and is trying to annoy me.
