Can someone identify that large construct at the end? Is it what I think it is?

That wasn't Halo. That was a sand simulator.

Precisely why MasterChief was in it and a woman came up on the stage talking about Halo 5.

I wrote this on reddit, but I will say it here too.

Quote: To clear up confusion, this is a reveal trailer. the point of the robe was to hide any trace of what game it was so that the reveal was bigger. So the robe has nothing to do with the game itself.

The sands of a desert aren't ultra-fine like at a beach. the cloak is to prevent that stuff from buffeting his armor and other belongings because quarts from the sand like that can scratch almost anything. You wouldn't want to fight an entire campaign with a fogged(sandblasted) visor

disrepair, lack of energy

it wouldn't be unlikely seeing as we got a chance to fight shieldless in Halo 3 Recon

No, Master Chief wears a vision obscuring robe over power armor capable of resisting any threat to the user because he can.

This only serves to prove the one and only weakness of a Spartan, is hot dessert sand. Falling threw the atmosphere? No problem. A parasitic infection that can infect any life form? No problem. Explosions? No problem. Desert sand? Serious threat!

Beat me to it.

I find it interesting that the chief's visor is cracked.

He's been fighting continuously for years. I'm surprised he's managed to keep his armor in as good a condition as we tend to see it in.

^ Maybe MS has a thing similar to Valve's issue. They can't count to 5. :P

Anyway, the robe probably belongs to a different character. When I saw it, I thought it was likely Keyes or another UNSC general, having lost transport and all methods of communication, searching the desert for Masterchief. Maybe Masterchief's been buried in the sand and the helmet is cracked because a powerful enemy has managed to break through his armour and he now needs allies such as the robed man.

you don't understand! he had cover while re-entering atmosphere! he can kill parasites! he can dodge explosions! but sand... sand is everywhere, and you can't kill sand!

Well. Seeing from how his visor looks, it is probably not working right or broken. Besides. Who wants sand stuck in their joints and equipment? I'm also guessing it is a disguise or something. It's kind of obvious seeing an 8 ft green super soldier walking around...

An 7 foot tall being wearing an oversize potato sack isn't any less harder to see.

Well. The color of the 7 foot tall being wearing an oversized potato sack, blends into the environment better then a 7 foot tall being wearing a green super suit. Besides, he looks less threatening that way.

Just for the record, that trailer does not make me want to play the game... On the contrary, it re-enforces my decision never to play a Halo game developed by 343i.

THIS was an epic trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z36WDj2PcU

while this is a lame trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhMU_FCjFs4

I understand that some people enjoyed Halo 4 but lets face the facts: 343i took the most beloved frachise in all of gaming and replaced all the things we knew and loved with lame, lazy, poorly imagined crap. The new theme song might as well be white noise in comparison with the original, MCs new armor looks totally rediculous, MC and Cortana's "relationship" was on the verge of being soap opera material, and the prometheans were just stupid.

(anyone want to know my theory for why the prometheans limbs are floating like that instead of being attached in a believable fasion? Because rigging and animating joints is time consuming... stiff floating objects are easy.)

Okay... sry about that. I'm done now.... I apologize if any fans of the game felt insulted by that, I just tend to get angry when people ruin things I care about.

Which leads me back to my original LS of asking: "Why are the aliens always primitive?"

I'm looking at almost every movie that's been released so far when I ask that.

I'm pretty sure you don't decide not to kill a bug in your house because it blends in and 'looks less threatening'. That's the situation from the Forerunner perspective.

Just admit it, the only reason 343 did it is because they wanted to capture the 'hermit' style hero who even wartorn continues forward clutching their robe, even though it makes no sense in this context.

Well. I didn't say that the bug blends in. I said the clothes.
Master Chief doesn't blend into the environment, so if you were to compare them like that; then the bug wouldn't either. So I probably not noticed the bug if it had cloth over it that blended it in. Which means, i wouldn't really feel as threatened to the cloth if i didn't know what was under it. :)
Also he could be hiding anything under the cloth and they don't see what or who he is. Making it difficult to identify how threatening he is.

But, you possess limited omniscience. You can see without seeing. Kill without killing!

...okay, maybe not that last part, but Forerunners have advanced sensors. We saw Mr. Robot Chicken didn't have any problems identifying Chief.

Who said he identified him?

It was probably like, "Ah? I don't get much visitors. Who is this? I can't see who you are under there..." *Gust of air* "Oh. Green guy with a super suit. You almost got me there."

With the tech available to the various factions in Halo, Master Chief's cloak wouldn't do him much good.

He became a monk to regather himself after losing a loved one. After his daily monk routeen, his temple gets attacked by forerunners, so he leaves his temple to hunt down and take revenge on his fallen loved ones.
There you go. The answer to him wearing an oversized potato sack.

Or he became a forerunner worshiper and heard of a forerunner or some forerunner tech that could bring back Cortana. Or maybe just the last few parts i said excluding the forerunner worshiping...

It's not Master Chief under the armor.
It's Ben Kenobi.
