I think the side sight could be a little higher on the Reach/H4 Splazor, but oh well, if SOI plans on making it have a side sight, it'd probably look better and seem more convenient to have the side sight like in Halo 4/Reach except a little higher.

Bit like this, eh?

except hopefully less crappy

Halo 4 is awesome. Stop hating on it.

cept the h4 model for the spartan laser is actually just reach's model thrown into the game. So really, he's hating on Halo Reach.

PS, the side sight in h4/reach does look like utter crap though. What were you thinking Bungie? D:

PSPS, I know this is off topic, but I noticed your avatar quote is asking for a cats/dogs halo mod...you are aware that already exists right?

Edited by Delicon20 on Oct 24, 2013 at 09:37 PM

i mean it was a crappy reskin that generally looked bad in h4's lighting (seriously who the fluff uses orange and yellow to saturate a game, black/grey with blue work best, but a slight purple is the most discreet) i'm saying hopefully soi_7's version won't look like a bad reskin in bad lighting.

The only thing that might have issues is the scope. Since the Spartan Laser is held atop your shoulder, having the optics mounted on top of the weapon doesn't seem like it would be particularly convenient.

Eh, I knew it would have caused some problems. I didn't like much the HR/H4 optics, because (maybe for its shape) it looked like it has been randomly slapped on the weapon... something that doesn't fit the overall design. That's why I put it there. I can't find a decent shape for a scope placed on the side, though; unluckily modern weapons don't help, and in Halo there aren't much weapons with a side display...

Perhaps you could go the route of the Javelin launcher and have a large, computer-like optic. However, since the Spartan Laser is unguided, I'm uncertain as to why you might need such an elaborate targeting system (if nothing else, you could give it a night vision function and multiple magnification levels).

Random thought: Would it be possible to give a weapon a sort of backpack that fits onto the player model properly? If so, you could take the large battery that connects to the gauss Warthog's cannon and run the cable into the Spartan Laser, if you wanted to give the weapon more power or additional shots.

If you don't want to go the route of the Javelin, the Stinger seems to have a more conventional scope you might be able to draw inspiration from.

I liked the Stinger scope more, so I took inspiration from it. I didn't use that squared support, though:

Hoping for a positive response...

About the backpack thing, I knew that a backpack can be made using a model permutation in the player biped, but the cable won't move as well and won't connect properly the weapon to the battery. That's why I didn't give a backpack tank to the Flamethrower...

This is more of an aesthetics problem but I don't like your color choices. You're mixing grey, white, red, yellow, and blue. Might want to choose one base color for the main part of the model and add small highlights. iE bluish gray metal with yellow lights might look good.

Something about the scope lens seems weird.

If you look closely, you can see parts of the weapon that are supposed to be hidden by the scope.

Uh...Edios Montreal did when they made Deus Ex Human Revolution. The game looks absolutely stunning too. I'm pretty sure you guys are just hating on H4 for the sake of hating on it

I think you should move the sight forward just a tad bit. Other than that you should be set (though im unsure about the current fake RT camera thing that you have for it, i think it might be better just making it a solid color with a decent cubemap)

instead of using the cobra for the warthog, use the Aardvark. its basically a warthog that's enclosed

http://jolstatic.fr/www/captures/898/5/14005.jpg

That's a pretty cool vehicle. It needs a passenger seat, though, but that's not a problem. Maybe I could take the Cobra color scheme for the Gauss Warthog.

Wut? The HR Spartan Laser uses almost the same color scheme, and looks fine :o
http://techgeek.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Reach_MPBeta_SpartanLaser.jpg
White goes with everything, after all...

About the errors you guys pointed, I have fixed all of them: specifically, I have increased the poly count of the scope, changed the display from a transparent glass to a reflective lens, similiar to the BR scope, and moved it a bit forward, in order to better see it:

What do you think? I hope you give me the OK for the next weapon (Gravity Hammer)

There is some major contrast between white and all the other colors on the weapon. There is less contrast if green is used instead of white (despite that red and green are opposites)

What if I desaturate a bit the red decals?

(Photoshop recolour of an old pic).
I made also other combinations: here is the SL with a bluish tint:

And here is the SL with the old greenish metal:

Which one do you think is the best?

Sorry for the long silence, guys, but luckily I have an update!

I have worked on the Gravity Hammer, and I got this:

HOW IT IS MADE:

I have moved the Blade to the handle, in order to give more sense to the melee animation:

Since there was already a blade on the handle, the head of the Hammer was empty, so I added other parts. I know that the blade orientation seems weird, but it is the only way to not stab the player:

The firing effect is custom, and really cool:

To be honest, this time I ran out of ideas, so... If you think there is something weird, you can be as creative as you want

personally i think this is not your best rework ever, but i didn't make one, so i can't criticize. i think however, to improve the hammer u need to beef up the head (it looks kinda empty and weightless now IMO) then extend the blade making it longer and thinner (maybe make it closer to the handle too). thanks for all your work thus far!

I hope you meant slim it down. Besides if a blade were that fat it wouldn't cut anything.

There is not much of a difference.

It's not always cutting, you know. It could be used for slashing, stabbing, chopping (think meat cleaver or axe), etc. Maybe even smashing, assuming that it's more blunt than sharp.

The gravity hammer innately works by having AG repulsors of some sort at the head and some sort of thruster at the back of the head. if you make a bigger set of thrusters w/ a chunkier head that provides a larger "smashing" area for the hammer, you should be pretty much set.

I have reduced the size of the blade, and made it thinner. Then I have added bigger thrusters, like R93_Sniper suggested, and modified the head in order to look bigger and less empty. This is the result:

If only the light volumes could be visible also in fp!

Better or worse?

Good idea, with that method I could also make the stream disappear after the hammer swing.

By the way, guys, I'm glad to say you that I have to make just three weapons (Plasma Pistol, Sentinel Beam and Major Sentinel Beam) and then I have finished all the weapons! I need some ideas for the Plasma Pistol, but once I have finished them I can go on with all the other tags!

maybe have the plasma pistol have a delayed stun/burn effect on overcharge (as in, you overcharge and hit an enemy, the pistol slowly burns the enemy due to severe plasma burns and/or stuns them for a short time)

Faster plasma, too. that' be nice
