Quote: --- Original message by: The LodemanQuote: --- Original message by: Btcc22Quote: --- Original message by: The Lodeman Those mapnames are fine. I'm surprised to see that coming from you given the stick you gave CMT for their lack of creativity. Let's be honest, those are terrible map names, only made worse by adding "ODST" to them. It doesn't bode well for the project when even the naming isn't given any consideration. Edited by Btcc22 on Jan 7, 2013 at 01:51 PM Please explain to me in full detail, how the name of the map determines the quality and creativity put into the map creation process. Partial detail is not enough, full detail please. I want to fully understand what drives such nonsense in people. Hell we named our maps Lumoria_A, B, C and D. Again, those were the names of the files which indeed don't matter. The names he's given are the names of the actual campaign/project. Let's just have a look at the campaign names:
- Orbital Drop Shock Troopers Orbital
- Orbital Drop Shock Troopers Drop
- Orbital Drop Shock Troopers Shock
- Orbital Drop Shock Troopers Troopers
I don't want to come across as harsh but not only do the names lack an iota of creativity but they're outright nonsensical, something that makes it much harder to take the project seriously. We both know that we'd be concerned if any studio decided to adopt such strange naming conventions. If the project lead has this little originality and creativity to show in the naming of the project, the aspect which probably requires the least amount of it, then it's a worrying sign of things to come. I think you're misunderstanding his naming conventions. His project is called Orbital Drop Shock Troopers. And each mission is just divided into one part of that name.
It doesn't win an award in the Halo CE3 map naming category, but it's not terribly bad either. I consider it an average name, nothing specialy about it. I'm surprised people complain about this sort of thing.
Anyways, I've got to play a first early build of the first map in his series, and it's surprisingly good. It still needs work pertaining to encounters and some scenery placement, but the BSPs themselves showed great thought was put into them, and they are actually fun to navigate and look at. If he can pull up the other factors, either alone or with help, it'll be something to watch out for in the future.

Believe me, I'm not misunderstanding anything. It's good to hear that it's going well though. Hopefully we'll see some of the creativity shown off in future trailers. :) Edited by Btcc22 on Jan 7, 2013 at 05:20 PM

Quote: --- Original message by: Jaz Ah but Lodex, you didn't show those map names as the official visual names. They were/are merely filenames. We never gave any of our maps names. Just the project as a whole, because its supposed to be played at the same time. We did have "Episode 1" and also "Episode 2 - part a, b, c" etc. With that being said however, the map name doesn't mean anything. You could name your map "Greatest map ever created" and it could be the worst thing ever made. Or you could name "Crap" and it could be the very best. If its going to be a good map people will know it for the map itself, not its name.

What do the +'s mean? Incomplete I assume?
You could also turn Colliseum II into the Colliseum series since there is a 1 & 2 Edited by MatthewDratt on Jan 8, 2013 at 09:52 PM

+ means category. When you click on it, it opens a submenu containing multiple maps that fall under it.
For instance, selecting "+ Takedown Series" opens up a menu containing the 3 Takedown maps.
The reason I decided to leave out Coliseum I in favor of Coliseum II is the fact that Coliseum II is just a redo of Coliseum I. I think the author mentions it somewhere. But if you guys want both, I can easily make it a category.

Yeah, CII was an awesome heart-pounder. Dat boss, man. If only the Area 50-something and Madness levels were actually SP. I would have loved to have included those in the list. I did add in Epsilon, which is a freaking awesome level by the way, along with Evasion (freaking cool double-storyline) and GHP-Dangercanyon-4. I'm on the wall with Flood Eradication, as I ran into a gameplay-hurting issue when I spawned into Bloodgulch (I couldn't shoot anything, so the marines kept dying). I also don't know if I should put in Metropoli Assault, since the encounters are quite terrible. I'm thinking about scrapping Uprising and Cleanup for a few reasons. Uprising has unbalanced gameplay, a horrible BSP, and ends with no pause menu. Cleanup has no real ending, as the AI just stop coming after you enter a room. It took me 5 minutes to realize there was nothing left to do before I quit the game. As always, any input would be nice. This is for you guys! Have a hand in the process so you can get the best selection possible. Edited by MoooseGuy on Jan 9, 2013 at 01:14 PM

Out with the crap and mediocre levels I say. No offense to anyone who made them. Although I'd probably be too harsh a judge, and would only keep the ones that score high on all charts (BSP quality, encounter flow + quality, etc).

Lodex, Dennis has already disagreed with that attitude a few times and used this thing called logic as his reasoning.
Besides, you're getting a personal edited version of the UI so you have nothing to complain about. :/

Thanks to those who mentioned RPSP.
I have a question for you Moose, is there any way to reserve two additional names on the RPSP section? I have two WIPs to complete the Reach story arc, both of which have BSPs modelled over 90% but that do not happen to be my Next WIP. Tentatively named RPSP_S70 and RPSP_S90

Hey Opsy, yeah I have no problem putting projected releases in the list, as long as they have a 100% chance of completion and release. Speaking of that, could I get a short 10 to 15 word description for each of the maps? Twould be mucho appreciated.

Kirby gave me the great idea to have a message come up when a map isn't there. So that's exactly what I did. If you attempt to load a map that you don't have, an error message will pop up saying that you don't have the level, and that you can download it from HaloMaps.org.

Alright, I'll see what I can do. Some of these maps may go away for now if they are too far from release. This UI is getting updated every so often anyway. That is, if I can reach a deal with CMT.

With the latest OS, all versions are unified. So every version of Halo is available in the server list. Basically, its as if there are no versions when you go to search for a game.

Yeah, what Masterz said. I was going to do it but learned about the version bridging in the new OS.
By the way, Masterz, I need to ask you a question when we're on Xfire. It might be about that dll thing you were talking about earlier.
