I was able to reduce about 10,000 of the original 60,000 Without damaging the shape of anything; I fixed tons of smoothing errors, and lots and lots of geometry errors: There were about 5 overlapping surfaces, and tons and tons of degenerate triangles. There's your phantom bsp. As for the uv's, They are just texture coordinates. They literally have their own block in the model file. Changing the texture UVs can cause errors as I've encountered some in the past. Pretty unlikely, you'll say, but messing with UVs sometimes reveals other errors tool let by. Now using the "Optimize" modifier Will cut the poly count from the 62 000 it stood at to about 40000 although that usually makes tool cry. I'm not saying my modelling is perfect or even good by the way. It's however pretty easy to criticize. Also, I don't use any special "Tool". Your errors may come from import or simply because tool itself has never been perfect. I have uploaded maps which went totally fine, changed UVs and tons of errors spawned out of nowhere. Sometimes I would simply revert to a backup in which the model was exactly the same to avoid these. Further proof, Have you noticed some faces are see through? no matter how I tryed to texture them they wouldn't allow lightmaps to run. Oh and for smoothing, you're probably right since I don't really use it / know how it works within Halo Btw, Current RPG_Beta7 BSP is 53 000 polies excluding the Covenant Cruiser Edited by OpsY on Dec 7, 2012 at 08:12 PM

I'm trying to say you have nothing to loose by fixing uv maps, because if someting does go wrong you can use a version you saved before anyone tried to fix your uv maps.

The Halo 3 POA? She's a beauty. Is the model fully fixed? I'd like it. Although I cannot fit it inside the map unless I decided to go all-OS. I'm already full, everywhere. 50 000 polies of BSP, about the same amount in different elements (Boarding crafts, Longswords and other devices). I'm pretty much maxed up content-wise. I would very much like to work and create an interior for the ship however!

You should do it, This map needs something that really stands out from the previous ones. Open Sauce makes everything better; and if you use it i hope it means you or someone else will upgrade every shader in your map.

Anyway, fixing the UV's will be a lot of work, but would make it stand out a lot more. the one thing i didn't like about the last maps was the fact that they had horrid UVs and everything looked fake.

OPSY, why don't you release RPG Beta 7, and then release an OS version as well? For those special people.
That's one thing I have not noticed with the big project maps, such as Requiem, Extinction on Steroids. Why can't, when it is finished, make an OS version? Or develop an OS version in parralel with the vanilla version.

Really, I am eager to turn to OS Mapping. I just don't believe dividing the playerbase, making two substantially different versions of the map isn't something I want.
However, I could, using OS, merge hi-res versions of RPG_Beta5 6.2 and 7 into a single map. That's something that could fit and that while I did try, couldn't happen with vanilla. That would.
Again, I won't do OS until it's more mainstream and mostly, until it allows xFire to work.
Btw, thanks IHalo for the model. I'll take a look into it. If anything, I will have to lowpoly it if I ever want to work with it. There's probably many places that can be lowered. Edited by OpsY on Dec 11, 2012 at 10:14 PM

I can't figure out how to use OS, otherwise I'd probably be using it more. though if someone explained to me how to run it, I'm sure i'd have no problem. It looks like a great system, and a great step, maybe the next chapter, for Halo Combat Evolved.

Check; http://code.google.com/p/open-sauce/ Or just you know, use the really easy to use installer that's just as easy as any other installer in that all you have to do is click Next a few times.

As I said, I won't be making OS projects yet. It's tempting, for the future, to do so. The extended amount of space and polies is the kind of thing that is required to make extensive RPG maps. For example, I want to make a City map. Now, seeing how Halo is I have to limit the "Size" of the city to something rather small since Halo maps cannot be more than something like 4X4 kilometers.
