The Flood in Halo 3 is so under powered it's almost funny. Literally, like you can get through a swarm of them just by mashing the B button.
The Flood in Halo 4 looks menacing, but when you see one teabagging it reminds you that they're player-controlled and will never be menacing.

I don't think they're anywhere close to being done. This is, after all, something from a game that has an engine with many more capabilities than that of Halo 1.

After all, there's far more to Delta Halo's BSP than most players would think. If you fly a Pelican out of the level in Halo 2 vista, you'll find a lot of BSP structure to explore outside of the "game play area". Therefore, they have several glitches that will, without a doubt, pop up and make the game crash, as well as the nuisance of converting alone. But that isn't the only challenge they're having with this project.

Or how about horse noises like Halo 4? K THANKZ BAI

@Megatron: Hail Megatron! Lol I'm gonna say that every time I see you. But seriously:
I've done the pelican thing in the xbox version too and I have to agree. There's soooo much stuff out there it's like Bungie wanted us to break out of the map (although that doesn't explain the random square hole on top of one of the structures :S)

To me, it's no surprise that Halo 2 BSP's would be such a pain. If you do your research, you'll find the the development of Halo 2 was, at times, a nightmare for bungie. The E3 demo itself was a running on a glitchy, haywire prone engine that could crash just if the player looked in the "wrong" direction.

And even when they made an engine that the Xbox was actually capable of handling, the thing still was having numerous problems due to all the things they were trying to cram into the game, and despite all the cutting they did, it still had tons of glitches when it hit retail. Glitches that you can exploit without even trying at times.

The biggest example of how troublesome Halo 2 was for bungie to develop (in my opinion of course), was their dropship mechanics.

Both the Halo 2 Phantom, and the Halo 2 Pelican show bizarre behavior when nothing is controlling them, as they flop around all over the place, and their tails stick through the BSPs as if they aren't even attached to their models.

That, and if you're riding the Pelican in Metropolis when the game's flying it (via scripting), you'll be able to see through the framing on the roof of the thing, and certain seats make the Master Chief stand up and not be able to wield his gun. And as with the Phantom, if the Pelican suddenly gets flipped around, the infamous "Hold X to flip Banshee" message will appear.

Thus, the reasoning behind why these guys are having trouble with the BSP's for the H2SPP.

E3's poopy stencil shadows lol. Well, h2's tool can compile bsp's with common errors, I'm sure most of that bsp was a deathtrap.

The game engine for that demo was apparently nothing more than a fraud intended solely for E3 that hogged resources the original Xbox didn't have, only what a 2003 high end gaming PC was capable of handling.

Judging by what one of the bungie employees said to an interviewer, it seemed that it was running in debug mode, seeing as how they were deleting stuff off-screen to keep the Xbox from overloading, and to prevent the game from crashing as well.

But yeah, the point is clear. Halo 2's entire history of development was filled with glitches and crashes everywhere. The demo for E3 was so vulnerable to crashing/freezing that the player had to follow a certain "path" that bungie had determined was safe. If they did anything else, the game engine would throw a tantrum with more drama than a teenage love story.

And about the E3 demo, deleting stuff ofscreen is called portals. In other words, the level wasn't finished and had to delete stuff manually. It could easily be run on the xbox if they optimized it.

Thus, they made the mistake of throwing away something that could have been better than what we were given in late 2004 if that was true.

No, if you read into exactly what they did to accomplish that E3 demo, you would know that there is NO POSSIBLE WAY you could play on that level. It was B-R-O-K-E-N. It's like what you would get if you made a CE map that bypassed all the limitations. No bueno.

Thus, the reasoning behind all the scripting. Still, I'm hoping H2SPP will have some sort of version of this level. Although I'm not expecting the melee combo with the battle rifle.

So, are we going to see easter eggs in the unused areas of the BSP's, if they appear?

Poly count isn't really the issue. The BSP violated a ton of sealed world rules. Fixing it would be more work than it's worth.

That explains why it was scrapped. But now, it'd be entirely possible to make game engines that can run a level like that.

Cortana was created from a flash-cloned brain of Dr. Halsey. The UNSC does not have a Cortana backup because copying an AI does not increase its lifespan, and the copies are inferior to the original. This was demonstrated in Halo: First Strike.

Unless she has other, cloned versions of her brain somewhere, or the Storm Covenant has some more advanced technology regarding cloning.

So you never know, it might be retconned to hell and back eventually.

Mootjuh, while I dont want to be one of the whiners or complainers who are getting mad at the lack of #Progress on this project, I do suggest allocating more of your time and attention towards developing and stress-testing the individual maps. Give people some candy by letting them publicly stresstest the map shown at CE3 last year with the tank encounter. That should fill them with enough spirit to get off your backs. Spv3 did the same thing and it seemed to be fine for them.

I only had that map, and it was with CMT tags. I don't think it's even compileable anymore, and I don't have the shared resources that build needed.

The disaster that Delta Halo became is my fault, it was a poor decision to try to port one of the most complicated levels without fully thinking through the challenges that it would bring.
