I would say go with less smooth more jagged edges with straight vertical over and undercuts. I know that from afar, a lot of people like to just texture it in, but near the structure where you will see, it needs to be modeled in a bit more at least.

Also, (off topic a little) I noticed today that 343 can't come up with original ideas! XD

Silly 343 I will consider this your admittance that Crysis trumps all aesthetics in all games!

You were trying to get behind it right to shoot the red generator right? Aimlessly pumping bullets into it wasn't the answer if you weren't.

But anyway, I was thinking. HMaps needs a cool walker like that someday. Sure we have walkers, but those came in the days of 56k modems being primarily used and crapix cards! LOL!

@P3 : besides the characters, your designs are pretty unoriginals. I'd like to give a try for the grunt tho...
Here is what I did so far with playing at a detailled cliff, the previous pic with a bit more work :

@Hilarous : feel free to expand it, I did it randomly by extruding, moving and welding verts.
The hole in the wall is supposed to be a water source, splitting in 2 streams and going in a river lit which would look awesome with gravels as scenery and vegetation around

the designs have too many things attached to it, even if you look at most of modern (or future for that matter) weapons, they are still essentially a tube mounted to a grip, maybe with a scope on top, there is no reason to make your guns chunky, and sometimes, simplicity is best.

with that said, you do show promise and the design chunks look good, just not as a whole.

try making some simpler designs, and I think you're set

Check in later in the thread, those first drawings were the oldest. I have a bunch of newer designs and drawings that are simpler and less detail heavy.

have to be honest, the plasma rifle cartridge looks like a dildo, and you should make the design more organic, and less spiky, I like the shot effect Idea though

As for the rifle, I like most of it, except for two parts:
-the rear stock-- the semicircle near the butt of the stock is unnecessary, and really makes no sense function wise

-The Rear sight/magazine receiver-- mounting the scope onto a moving part makes the scope next to useless in terms of accuracy, if this was to be a bullet hose, that would be fine, but as a marksman weapon, not so much. Adding to that, the chances of you breaking the scope off are high (I know it is a video game, but still)

In that case it comes down to aesthetic choice as far as design is concerned. The circular cutout serves only a weight reduction purpose. The part of the rifle with the scope mounted does not move unless you are reloading the weapon, and even then the video feed to the scope comes from the lens on the end, not on the moving portion. Its not going to break off because it is locked in place when you aren't reloading the weapon.

The design choices on the plasma weapons are aesthetic.

I'm only offering these as examples of my work, not design ideas for this project. I can make more original designs. I was offering them in hopes that someone would be interested in my skills to add to the project.

I really don't need help but, if you do join, you can deign weapons, and i will design them too. Then when we are done, we will compare and let the team or the community choose which one would looks better. :) How about that?
Oh yeah... and not to be mean but... I think the hand drawn weapons looked eewy to me. The ones made in flash (I think it was flash...) looked much better. (But still had some edges and shapes that i didn't like or was out of place looking)

Thats fine, like i said, the designs I put here were just as examples, not designs for this project, and when I said work with you on your designs, I mean collaborate. I would rather not turn it into a competition xP

I win you go rethink yours and make it better. You or me come back with improved designs a few time, and the process starts over until there is a dominant design or we both like the design. @booble : your gun looks like having bad proportions between front grip and handle, you should try to edit it with a maxx like AR AS reference and scale everything, then it can be used directly as blueprint

I've always loved the top loading system. Reminds me of the p90.
Simplistic design too. Remember when designing weapons, keeping it simple is always the best. If it is decided that you like a design enough to create it, things such as attachments can always be added later when appropriate. Adding too much too early may just make people not like that design in particular and it causes them to not focus on the actual weapon itself. I think you did pretty well keeping it simple with that weapon design.

Also, to anyone wondering why I haven't been getting on xfire a lot lately, I am a bit busy with a few school/work/birthday/best friend's bachelor party and wedding things. This month has been hell, but after next week is over, I should be good for a while at least up until the holidays, but I am sure no one will be doing much for HMaps then anyway.

needs to more of a "exo-skel typ-o thing". I'd definitely recommend those from Lost Planet 2. re-design some parts here and there then voila~.

Its from FarCry a mod, i tried to get that to there, i rigged it, but animations with characters isn't my specialty.
I can give the model, what is unrigged, cryengine and halo engine are different with bone stuff.
If importing cryengines boneset rigged character to halo, it would probably crash.
Anyway, if someone wants it, pm me or something.


This would be my next choice :D

They're not bad, and I like the DMR, but they're not long enough. The guns look too tall but not long enough imo, almost unproportionate.

I don't know why, but for some reason when i am drawing them, they look long enough. But when i scan them they seem to get shorter, loose detail, and in a way tilted or out of proportion. -_-

Anything i should add or do to make them look better?

Also, i was thinking, the BR will have the holographic sight instead of a scope, so it would be more for... you know.... battle... semi ranged and semi firing weapon. I always thought it would sort of make more sense in doing so.

As for the DMR, single fire mid range weapon, weaker then sniper rifle but faster fire rate.

Shotgun, has iron-sight. Slit zoom (not x2 zoom) (I always thought it should of had iron-sight...)

Magnum has laser aim or iron-sight. Slit zoom (not x2 zoom)

Sniper has normal functions.

AR has better accuracy then Halo 1 AR. When clicking zoom button, the gun will be held closer and closer towards the middle of the screen and has slit zoom. (not x2)

Rocket has faster moving rockets.

And yeah...
