Hello.

I'm brand new to modding/extracting halo assets, but I know my way around 3d software.

How do I use this tool to extract assets? Where can I find one for halo 2 and CE ripping?

Thanks.

EDIT: Furthermore, I see all of these cool stuff you guys make via google, but I don't see a place to download any of the stuff, just for maps.

What gives?

So that I get this right, I can open the Halo 4 Map files with the current Adjutant, but nothing can be done past there? I know HaloExtreme117 said "Almost no changes" so I am guessing some changes would have to be made in order to open them, how can I do this?

First going to say awesome tool able to extract some models but not all of them for example, I see people here with Elites and Vehicles and even weapons but when I open Adjutant and load up M20.map and go to objects -> vehicles-> covenant -> Revenant and select revenant.mode I get Failed to load model. My view settings are on Folder Heirarchy and I'm using Windows 7 64 bit.

In my map folder I have all the campaign maps talking about m10 to m70_bonus and Campaing / Mainmenu / Shared maps aswell, so is there something I'm doing wrong I have tried to change the view to Tag type without any succes, hope someone could tell me on how to extract more models then just the cruiser corvette frigate and POA. And yes I also tried to run in windows xp mode and admin.

Do you have ALL the .map files in the same folder with there original names? That includes the main menu and shared.map

Re-download one of the maps, save it in a different folder, then create an MD5 hash from both the original file and the new one. If it matches, then post back, if not, it's a corrupt map issue, and you can PM me for a more reliable map source.

Alright downloading M35 aka tip of the spear together with the campaign shared and mainmenu maps, when they are downloaded I'm going to put them in a new folder and see if that works, something else how do I create a MD5 hash from the map file ? And I got the maps from.

Just a general question, have you gone down to the render model peice and just tried to extract the model like that? And i mean actually opening Adjustant in it's normal layout, going down to render model, and then finding the model for the revenant. That should work without a hitch.

Negative I have redownloaded the 4 maps campaign, mainmenu, shared and M35 (Tip of the spear) and cant load the model in tag or in heirachy view, this is bugging me really bad because I'm making a 3D short machinima and I need some models that I cant download/find on the interweb, ofcourse I can do requests but it would be easier for me to work if I can extract them my self.

No, everything ingame is baked (animation wise). Each halo has used a different animation rig, from biped rigs, to bungie made maya rigs. A rig is something consisting of what the animator needs to do what he wants done, not everything would have had a similar rig setup im sure. But anything compiled into halo itself is just bones and the mesh itself (goes for every halo).
Damn, I hate rigging. Also the bones arn't made for Maya, trying to use the IK tool results in failure. You have to detach the bones from the skin, freeze the transformations (rotate, transform, etc), apply them back and paint the skin weights, then apply the IK for it to work. It works flawlessly in Max though, but I prefer Maya, guess I have to deal with Max.

This is pretty strange, I just loaded up the revvi using only those 4 .map files. I'm thinking that they may be corrupted, that's the only way I see that not being able to load. If the problems continue PM me your e-mail or something and I'll see if I can help you out.

I've noticed that although the civilian_female can be extracted from m10.map, which share face and hair textures with both marine_female and the sara character, I seem to be missing said textures when I upload the assets into 3dsMax 12. I just wanted to know, has anyone else run into something like that?

Does anyone know of any good tutorials for getting a character to hold a weapon like the BR?

Also do any riggers/animators here have any recommendations for when it comes to animating and rigging?

Unfortunately, it seems that either the bitmaps aren't located with the tags, or that they aren't in any of the .maps at all... They do show up in the tags, but without the ability to view any of the bitmaps.

On a second note, how can you extract one bitmap when the batch extractor won't allow me to?

If you're using Max 2012 or 2013, the script won't import properly. 2010 is the recommended version.

No, it isn't. HaloExtreme117 is right, just opening the maps requires little change, but raw extraction would need more work. I could add support to open the maps, but other than looking at the tag names there would be nothing to do with them, so I probably won't add Halo4 support.


So unless we have 2010, this tool is useless to us?

Defaulting DXN_mono_alpha textures to DXN will cause the channels to mess up. As for TIF files, every bitmap format goes through a conversion to a normal ARGB format, so there shouldn't be any specific format TIF issues. The alpha doesn't actually blend into the diffuse, photoshop just doesn't always separate it. There may be a setting for this, because for me CS4 separates alphas but CS5 doesn't. As for DDS, not all formats are supported, which is why I set TIF as the default. If I made all the bitmaps convert to ARGB for DDS then they would all be supported, but of course would no longer be in their original format.

Opening the tif files and separating the alpha channels is actually really easy if you have photoshop.

Install this: http://www.fnordware.com/superpng/ into your photoshop folder

Extract a tiff bitmap with adjudant, open in photoshop. Resave that tiff image as a png, then open your newly saved PNG file WHILE HOLDING SHIFT (NECESSITY). A dialogue box will pop up, saying SuperPNG Input Options. Select the option, alpha appears as separate channel, and tick Always bring up this dialogue, then set it to defaults. After this, you won't have to keep holding shift when you want to change SuperPNG options. This should give you the alpha channels separated from the RGB diffuse. You can then resave it as a tiff to be compiled for halo ce.

I gave up on this awesome tool since it doesnt allow me to extract anything just props, I have tried to run it in differnt windows modes vista xp you name it but without succes :(

Usually when hardly anything extracts it's because the shared maps are missing or corrupted. You need campaign.map, shared.map and mainmenu.map in the same folder as the maps you're extracting from. You may also need to install .NET Framework 4 if you don't have it.

yeah I have re downloaded the needed maps (campaign/shared/mainmenu) 10+ time but without succes, I also have a newer version of .net framework on my computer running, if you look 1 page back you can see how I got my maps setup (I also tried multiplayer maps and firefight but I cant extract anything from them only campaign)
