I have noticed a few posts requesting Star Wars tags recently, but it seems that nobody has ever made a set of Star Wars tags AND released it.

So I decided I should go ahead and make AND release a set of Star Wars weapons, I could use the practice anyway.

The weapon set will definately include:
Thermal Detonator
DL-44 Blaster Pistol
E-11 Blaster (the blaster that the storm troopers use in the original trilogy)
A-280 (The blaster rifle that the Rebelion uses on Hoth in Empire Strikes Back)
Wookie Bowcaster

The weapon set might include (havn't decided yet):
DLT-19 Heavy Blaster
DLT-20A Blaster

If anyone has any specific requests that I should add in addition to these let me know and I will be happy to consider adding them to the list.

There are two requirments though:
1) I am only doing Galactic Civil War era
2) The weapon has to be cannon (it pretty much has to be weapon that was actually seen in the original trilogy)

And last but not least, I thought maybe I should go ahead and prove that I am actually working on this (not just making wild claims and empty promises)....

Thermal Detonator: (I almost have this one fully fuctional in-game)

E-11 Blaster: (I just finished the model and texture on this one)

I will try to get this finished soon but remember that this is only a side project, I still have other modding projects and a life so be patiant.

Very cool. Nice to see some new members making things themselves.
Also you should definitely model a lightsaber as an energy sword replacement.

Could you make the sniper variant of the A295 Blaster Rifle?

Or maybe a Bowcaster, if you don't mind.

Thanks.

I might make a lightsaber, but I don't really know how I could create the blade effect. Although I have never really been that fond of any kind of swords in first person games, but I will think about it.

btw, I learned FP animations from your tutorial. Thnx for makin that, it helped a lot.

I don't think there were any sniper rifles of any kind in the original trilogy, but I will think about it.

I have been back and forth on whether or not to do a bowcaster, but I will probably end up adding it simply because I have always liked wookies and the bowcaster is their signature weapon.

Haha thanks, glad I helped :) Also the glow effect could be done by repurposing the .glow effects from the energy sword. If you look at the energy sword gbxmodel in max/gmax, it's got a bunch of markers along the blade to attach .glow markers to. You can just take some of these markers and line them up on your blade, then add the glow effects. You can even change the color for different colored blades :o

Also I definitely think you should do a bowcaster.

hmm... Yea, I guess I could do it that way. I wish I knew how these people did it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7WX3rUBOoA

Well, since I now have two requests for the bowcaster I guess I will go ahead and add it to the list.

The blaster pistol and the thermal detonator are sort of neutral weapons, but the A-280 and the E-11 are both very "faction-specific" as is the bowcaster. So I need to come up with an imperial equivelent for the bowcaster or it will be dificult for anyone using this tagset to balance their maps properly.

Quote: No, it isn't a glow tag. It was actually clever use of double sided textures with alpha on 4 planes that intersect in their midsections.

Unfortunately don't really understand that. If someone who does understand that would make a tutorial, then I would be happy to add a lightsaber to my list.

@Echo77 & UnevenElefant5: I added the wookie bowcaster to the list.

I haven't been able to think of an Imperial counterpart to the bowcaster. But maybe each team could have a weapon unique to their faction. Maybe the Imperials could have a sonic pistol like in Star Wars: Battlefront II.

I know I havn't posted about this pack in a while (life kinda got in the way of modding) But I have decided to get back to the project.

I don't know if anyone is at all interested in this anymore, but I have finished all of the models and am now working on unwrapping and texturing them.

I know they are not amazing, but I don't really have the time to put tons of effort into these so they will have to do.

A280:

DL-44:

Wookie Bowcaster:

These 3 plus the two in my original post will make up the weapon set.

Any advice/critizism/insults are welcome.

Please let me know if anyone is even interested in having these released (or am I wasting my time?)

A bit hypocritical here but the A280 looks a bit boxy at the back half.

Nah, I disagree.... I think the whole thing looks a bit boxy :)

Anyway (joking aside) I agree with you, I am probably going add some final touches to that one b4 I finish unwrapping it.

So what do you think of the other two? Good/bad/terrible/awesome/hideous.... Any feedback is welcome :D

I do think you pulled off the bowcaster pretty well, though it seems that the front end of the stock should be a tad longer.

The pistol looks pretty well too to me, but the front of the cartridge holder just looks like it's begging for a slanted poly in front of it.

Overall you're the first to do this anyway, so I'd say they look pretty good with minor errors.

I actually modelled the bowcaster up against a blueprint so that I would have the proportions ccompletely accurate. But I could easily lengthen that part a little so that it looks a bit better.

I am not sure I understand where you are talking about on the pistol? Could you explain further?

Thanks for the feedback,

Like I said, I didn't spend very much time making these because I don't have the time... But I do want them to look good, so if anyone notices any little changes that they think would help PLEASE tell me.

Well, that is an interesting idea but I am not making up the weapons myself. I am trying to recreate weapons from Star Wars, and the DL-44 looks like this:

So I think I am gonna go ahead and leave it like it is.

I actually do kinda like your idea, but the DL-44 (Han Solo's blaster) is a pretty famous weapon... So I don't really think I should mess with the design.

Can you make a DC-15A and DC-15S?

Well, I am gonna stick with original trilogy weapons this time. But if people like the weapons set when I release it then maybe I will go back and make clone wars era weapons as well.

These are going to be so fun to play with when released, curious though, where are you getting your sounds?

I am glad that there is at least one person looking forward to it :D

As for the sound, I havn't decided yet. I have some sound packs from a Star Wars video contest I did once, or I can play the movie on my computer and use an audio capture program to get sound clips and then edit them in Audacity (an audio editing program I use).

I will probably try both methods and see which one sounds best in-game.

Maybe rip from BFII :o ?

Nah... I have never ripped anything, and I never will.

Besides, the blaster sounds in BFII are not technically accurate to the movies. I am trying to match the original.

I will probably end up using the sound pack that I have. That would be the easiest thing to do.
