I've wanted to do this for a while, heck Gamma and I were actually attempting that with Subterfuge but the map wasn't big enough.
We/I was planning stuff for something such as Cityscape_Classic or Autumn_Slayer, but neither got into any type of in-game state.

Yes, Subterfuge was somewhat an emulation of this. The version I played was foggy so I couldn't see much, though.

combine RPG betas, extinction, hugeass, bloodgulch, coldsnap, infinity, and danger canyon into one map. and you have open world.

You could always have the objectives "mini" missions within the level, just simple things sometimes but others ranging from blowing up a communications outpost, to killing X amount of enemy leaders in the area, Surviving for a certain amount of time, providing cover support from a building, and the finale being a warthog run/escort mission. Something like that.

yes its very much possible but it matters how big you want it...
the bigger less detail
the smaller more detail
say like a city map like chronoplis it could be easier because you can make it lower poly.
i remember inferno tried a Gta like thing on it..
where u have to do missions and you get money.. but if you kill a civilian as a cop (warthog with gunner drives by) they will kill you.. or you can jack it and take there car and watch the nades come at you...
idk how many people know about that map i remember a leaked build of it

FPS levels have a main goal. If the level's actually made decently, it has side objectives that help towards the main goal.

I do remember being asked to explore the concept using an existing MP map, but that was long before you joined I believe.
