This is some thing I found a few months ago, it's being worked on by FlamingIce.

*Author's Words*

Solitude is a PSP and PC game using a heavily modified Quake engine, expanding upon the story in the Halo universe.

Solitude's story will try its best to keep to the canon of the Halo universe. All our story writers have read the Halo Novels, as well as played the games, gathering as much information as they can.

Expect a great, brand new single player story and all of the most popular multiplayer modes from Halo : Combat Evolved and a few of our own :

* Slayer - Every man for himself.
* Team Slayer - Red vs Blue, 4 vs 4.
* Capture the Flag - Capture the enemies flag and take it to your base.
* Odd ball - Survive the longest with the skull.
* Survival" - Players will be trapped and forced to face of against waves of Covenant and flood trying to survive for the longest time.

The Flaming Ice team is working hard to bring the game to you as fast as possible, more information can be found on our site at www.halosolitude.com, stay tuned.

Note: All our models and textures are our own, made by using the original Halo models only as reference.

Some Screenies and renders:

Further updates will be given when FI gives them out.

I've seen this on moddb, seems great, but I couldn't get an accurate progress report.

Right now I have not received information from FI if you have to run it with custom firmware.

For ODX: FI's team made them, not me.

Not exactly high-poly models

ever heard of optimization? it's on the quake engine to work on a PSP fluently, I downloaded an early, early build and it could hardly run because of the graphics.

Quote: --- Original message by: Sergeant Major
I would most definitely purchase this if given the chance.

oh yeah? and how would these guys manage to sell it? people can't just sell crap like this, that would be major copyright infringement

Quote: --- Original message by: Sergeant Major
Edit: Some use of Phong shading would be nice as well, just a suggestion.

your suggestion falls upon deaf ears, the development team is not on these forums, and for good reason

Will it have syncing AI?

you fail to realize this is NOT on the Halo engine. shooters since DOOM have had syncing AI, why would this mod built from the ground up on a completely separate engine have trouble with something Halo has problems with? Or do you think all the engines out there are just like the Halo engine?

ugh... read above.

basic freaking logic guys, come on

@ HaloIsAHorribleGane

Look I only posted this here because I thought it would be cool for everyone to know that there's something like this being worked on right now. And the reason for me not posting the link to moddb is because I'm only walking on the safe side here, because it might break the rules of the forums which I have not thoroughly examined yet.

I have Sent all the suggestions made by the members here to FI via message in MDB, so basically right now I'm just waiting for the reply, and I am going to post further updates here.

oh well my bad. posting links on this forum is not against the rules. it seems decently on-topic enough to be worth linking to. I wouldn't worry about it.

and besides... even if it were against the rules, it's not like anything would happen, you should see some of the crap people get away with here

Why are you even here, if your only goal is to criticize the community of a so-called "dead" game? If you Think it's dead, and you don't like this community, go away and stop being here for the sole purpose of trolling. Please.

don't be like those furries and weeaboos who cry "OMG TROLL" over a difference of opinion.

I really don't like the way it looks. I mean yeah it's probly low budget or something but they could make it look at least a little better. I've seen to many things turn into that blocky cartoon stuff like star wars and transformers and that has been stuff i've grown up with. I'm not raging to let you know but I think they could put more detail into it.

Dont get me wrong it looks like a good game though and kinda like UT merged with Halo, and i love that fact but my statement above still stands. The PSP can take more.

do you by chance own a modded PSP? If you do I'm suprised you'd make that last statement.

like I said, I downloaded an early build of Solitude that I found a link to on youtube. I think it was the september leak. it was Quake 1 with a few Halo weapon swaps and some modifications to the physics and controls. my PSP couldn't handle it and crashed upon entering the first level.

Official games designed specifically for the PSP take advantage of the hardware to it's fullest. Third party mods are much more sketchy in design. Example: Quake 2 for the Playstation will run on the PSP at full speed, because the system was designed to handle Playstation 1 games. Quake 2, ported from the PC by the community, has not been a success due to modders being unable to harness the hardware to it's fullest.

for as low poly as they are, they look fine.

quake animations are handled very differently than today's standards. I think it's something like one keyframe per 0.2 seconds, with linear interpolation via the engine. I don't know how modded their Quake engine is, so I couldn't say for sure. if you know anything about animation, you can't really refine movements with those limitations.

I don't know. From my experience though, I managed to create two weapons, and four or five frames lasted a good full second. for a five second animation, that would be 20-25 available frames with no between-frame interpolation in the engine. not alot. It looks like they added linear interpolation to their modified engine, though I'm not sure if they've upped the frame limit. overall these animations are a huge step up from Quake 1's, they look quite nice given the limitations.

so, the template for animating for this game would be, I'm assuming just based on how it looks, 5 frames a second with linear interpolation. if you can make something look as good as today's standards with that, you're an animation god.

Also, keep in mind their animations are all done in Blender. They don't get all the fancy tools that 3DS Max has to make fluent animation excessively easy.
