For high quality;

tool:
tool lightmaps levels\"yourmapname"\"yourmapname" "yourmapname" 1 0.5

sapien
press ~
type: radiosity_quality 1, hit enter.
type: radiosity_start, hit enter. wait for the numbers that appear to go to 0,0,0
when its at 0,0,0
type: radiosity_save.

You will then have good radiosity built by good ol halo.

I use tool but you can use sapien also.
Tool:
open tool, type:
tool lightmaps levels\levelname\levelname bspname 0 0.9
wait for it to finish

Sapien:
hit the ~ key
type:
radiosity_quality 0
radiosity_start
then wait for it to finish

It varies on how big your map is, shaders, and some other things. High quality lighting can take up to a few minutes on a simple map to a week on complex maps.

I've had a question about this on my ingame H2 single player level metropolis,When I ran radiosity it took like 2 to 3 hours and I have a $1600 computer :/

But my question is,is radiosity through saipen and tool the same thing? I did radiosity on my beta level and somone said I still had to do lightmaps?,I always thought radiosity was the lightmaps :/

Honestly I can't tell the difference between tool's and sapien's. I juse use tool because it's faster and I can work on other things while it runs, where as sapien needs to be onscreen and you can't do anything else while it runs.

actully sapien does a better job. it runs long as needed too, and compiles all the lights and settings unlike tool. in tool, you tell in the command how long it should run down too, and if its not enough it can screw up and not compile everything. this is one of the reasons why sapiens alot better if youre running halo lightmaps.

There's a way to customize the lightmaps isn't there? Like making them darker?

If you have any light emitting shaders then it might take a while, if no shaders emit light then a minute or two.

Deehunter, what were the subdivisions on the lights used in the 2nd pic?
I ask because they look too sharp, imo somewhere in between the 2 pics would look best.

Those lightmaps are baked bro. Made them myself. Tool could never do that. And btw, shadows are supposed to do that.

I know they are baked, thats why i asked about the subdivision settings of the light you used in max.

Shadows can look like either pic if the conditions are correct, some are blurry and some are crisp, there are many variables that affect this.

I used vray for its lighting engine so "lighting subdivisions" depend on a lot of things. The lightmap in that picture is 2048x2048. But halo CE gives its maps the most crappiest UVs so increasing the map size wont do much unless the uvs work with it.
