I what to know if it is possible for bungie to change the net code for halo PC/CE via automatic updates. By "change net code" I mean make it so that you don't have to aim ahead depending on your ping; like Half-Life 2. If this "is" possible then i would like for anyone that likes this idea to type in your reply "I agree".
Also please don't flame if this idea is crazy or stupid to you, because frankly i don't know anything about how the net code works or exactly what it is

It's hard scripted into the game, and more then just that would have to take place to actually change it. It would be way too much work for one guy, the rest of bungie wouldn't even want to do even the slightest but more work on PC/CE besides even changing the netcode... If half of this community joined together to actually get into the netcode as change it, it would probably take 6 - 12 months most likely; it's that hard scripted.

I say we storm Microsoft and steal it, then find out how to update it ourselves. We have more than enough talented people.

I would have to agree with this, but personally, i think this sort of makes the sniping interesting. I've sort of gotten the hang of it. But yes, Halo definitely could have used lag compensation. I have been robbed of many a stick because of lag.

Quote: --- Original message by: daniel117 I what to know if it is possible for bungie to change the net code for halo PC/CE via automatic updates. This will never ever happen. Why?
- Bungie is not a PC game company, they are an Xbox game company.
- Gearbox software ported the Xbox game to the PC and Gearbox's support contract with Bungie has expired
- The Game is over 6 years old and there is not enough sales to support the engineering effort to update the game to different specs
- Bungie has already re-written the game code (for the Xbox) three times, with Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo ODST and are now re-writing the game code for Halo Reach. There is no reason to revisit an old game
- Halo Custom Edition was released as NOT SUPPORTED meaning they (Gearbox) are under absolutely no obligation to update the game.
- Bungie does not access to have the full source code for the PC game, the source code is owned by Microsoft, and does not have PC game engineers to make any changes
- The last couple of patches were released ONLY for Security exploits in the GameSpy source code modules they do not have any effect on game play
- Bungie is an Xbox game company NOT a PC game company anythign they do for the old PC game is done as a favor to the fans and they have stated that they will not be making any changes to game play. meaning the netcode or graphics, to the old PC game.
Simply saying: This will never happen.

Trust me this will fail ive went to bungie microsoft and gearbox. emailed them even called them talking about deals on the netcode and stuff like this. all you will do is argue with them and wont solve anything. just waste a couple of your hours away. so i sugest you wait or try to contact the guy who is some where on this forum who is curently making a new CE engine.

This thread isn't even a debate.
1. There will be no updates to the Halo PC/CE games. (Besides the security fixes released for the fans)
2. The netcode is fine.
3. Engines are easy to make. Making them worthwhile, is a pain in the ass.

Yeah freeware stuff is simple for like making a stickfigure game in like a month. while a complete modeling set around 900 bucks can get you pretty far but since its one of the rules im hush.

You still have to pay for it after the trial is over. And you still have to code in your own things. All it really is a base engine that renders models and textures.

30 days..i haven't messed with this but my clan site admin is deving a new FPS with the full engine, i believe atari owns it. he said unity basically an indie version of the engine they're using. there was an indie game release that used unity a few weeks ago called "Intergalactic Marines"
if any halo content were created with it it would have to be an entirely different entity and wouldn't compat with anything we're playing on now. it'd be like a whole new game which would probably get pwned by copyright.

lol. lol. lol. OK. So, you want to change the netcode? Guess what. It's impossible, unless you want an entirely new game. Gearbox dosent need to fix anything if they dont want to, and don't need to do anything for a game thats almost 7 years old. The game is too old and dosen't recieve enough profits to really get a update like that anyway. I'm surprised that they would still be putting out patches too. Anyway, the netcode is hard coded into the game. Unless you feel like some how getting the source code, rewriting that code, and building us a new engine, your not going to get anything. Besides, the netcode as of now, is perfectly fine. Play the game it was made, and get good.

Roger is the ONLY PC support person in Bungie right now and his main responsibility is the video rendering back end NOT Halo PC. The fact that he is finding some time to respond to the various security exploits is a testament to their dedication to the fan base. They are not going to make any significant game changes to a game released ion 2004 and superseded three times by their core products mainly the Xbox platform. Bungie is a Xbox game company and it was Microsoft that had the PC versions of Halo 1 and Halo 2 created by outside sources. Just because he has copies of the builds of the 2 PC versions does not mean he can make any changes other than network exploits. There is a process of quality control that must be followed to say nothing of the fact that Microsoft owns the rights to the PC versions of the games NOT Bungie. Anyone who thinks that Bungie will or even CAN make game play changes to the PC versions simply does not understand the software development, licensing and release process much less anything about how business works.
