In Halo 3 you can operate a turret with infinite ammo, and then snap it off for a portable gun with limited ammo. My question to you is, which button is the best for this? Secondary fire? Melee?
And the next question is which is better: When you snap it off it stays in third person, or it retracts to first person?

First person animations usually look better, but the feel is kinda ruined. CMT's Hunter cannon was First person though.
The best button would be melee imo.

Its impossible. Wouldnt sync. Only closet way is a damage effect that destroys it and spawns a weapon. But that doesnt sync.

I always wondered if someone could make it so that after you ripped the turret off it could trigger a program to run that would cause you to get third person view. Could someone possibly make the weapon a trigger to cause this. I'm just asking cause if they do this in game for when you get on like the warthog chaingun and it goes to a third person view and then when you get off the chaingun you go back to first person point of view so it must be possible right? Yeah that happens because the warthog is a vehicle. You will go into 3p when your firing the turret obviously, but the trick is making it stay in 3p after you rip it off.

This is for SP, btw Advancebo. I would never really attempt to create this in multiplayer because imo it would ruin Halo 1 gameplay.

I don't think it would ruin Halo gameplay. Even though the turret does do alot of damage when you carry it your slow so anybody could easily use a grenade and then finish you off. It's not like the turrets unfair if anything it would improve gameplay by giving players more options.

Its okay for toggles, but for single time buttons it sucks.

The way I did it is the closest to what I think Halo 3 does (I've never played it before). It actually gives the player the weapon. And no, it isn't more complicated. Takes me less than a minute to set up a turret.

It's in a test map I made like four months ago. Was going to be a surprise, but then things kinda fell apart. I'd get the video if the map still existed, and if I wasn't dead tired from running in a hundred and five degree weather.

I have videos of the actual turret on my profile, but as far as I know, nothing's being done with the turret because we're still waiting for my model to get unwrapped.

I think CMT is doing something like that for SPV2, I heard you can have portable turrets, I saw a picture and it was in first person, maybe you could see how they do it?

SPv2 doesn't have detachable turrets. The portable turret is a weapon to replace the chaingun from SPv1.

CMT Chaingun Turret:
Step 1: You pickup a deployable weapon turret (unable to fire) Step 2: You deploy the weapon, which spawns a turret vehicle (able to fire and be destroyed) Step 3: The vehicle turret is destroyed after some damage, and spawns a weapon in its place Step 4: Pickup the weapon, which is able to be fired.

Yeah SPV2 has "deployable turrets" what I'm talking about is having turrets unlike in SPV2 where you have to get on the turret and shoot it. Instead be able to deploy the turret and it shoots on its own this way the player would be free to attack and would have covering fire from the turret.
