I need an opinion on a bitmap i am hoping to create theme around. I know i am not that great of a bitmap designer. But bitmaps for me is mostly just for fun. The colored parts are going to be in a glow map later on and the glow parts now are going to be looking more inset on the final product. The first one looks really crappy just because there's something weird going on with gmax right now, but the second map as you can see is a lot smoother. That is a base map as of now. To get the gmax image, the original image it is mirrored twice on each axis. I plan to make it a 2048 x 2048 image when i am done unless anyone thinks that is too much.

Again, please post any critique. Even if you think it outright blows.

Yea... I'm noone to tell you how a forerunnerish texture like what looks what you were attempting. Tbh it looks like you made it in paint. Why is there no detail? If it's supposed to resemble metal it doesn't at all, just looks like greyness.

Not that bad of a design. But it lacks detail. And get a new program to render that

Well, as i said it's a base map. I will be selecting each individual part later and giving it a lot more texture. There are also some things i want to tweak. But as of now. i really just need an opinion as a starting design. My computer is out and the part i need doesn't come in for a couple days, so i basically have been stuck to using paint on this god forsaken computer i am on now. My computer has Photoshop on it and I should be able to make a lot better texture with that later.

i also really don't like the mirrored background because it is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeealy noticeable. I want to just mirror everything but that lighter grey crap i call a background and then add a new background later.

Oh yes, i also have 3DS Max 10 on my computer so when it's up and running i should be able to render it a lot better.

you do NOT need 2048x2048 for that

spend some time messing with photoshop's tools, and maybe also search for some tutorials on youtube and elsewhere to see what kind of stuff you can do with photoshop, like selecting color ranges, pattern stamping, layers, whatever. As you learn what does what, you'll see for yourself what you need to do to make that texture look good. Don't expect immediate results, just keep learning and practicing. Unless you find your true calling is actually veterinarian or politician or something
