In halo the sun is a real light shineing on your map wich adds the light to your map model with out it you cant run radiosity the error you see is becasue no light is hitting the those black lines when you ran radiosity .
In halo the clouds actuly move & light can shine through that. You can animate the clouds & you can ajust the brightness of the sun & It's place in the sky. You should use the pic you have for a simple background picture 1 bitmap on a sky never looks good! I learned how to make custom skys by fallowing the moon base sky tutorial on halowiki If you learn how to make real nice custom skys you wont regret it trust me! as for the error its caused buy the radiosity not hitting that part of the model. You could try adding the sun to the center of the bsp & reradioing but I woulde'nt even bother & thats the best thang I can comeup with hope I helped! Ive already said what causes the black lines, its how he took the original 6 pics.
