What do most people like or want in a map that is good for gameplay? I trying to make a map but I don't know what people would like in a good map.

Personally, i like a multiple level map much like Guardian in halo 3. It makes it interesting when you don't know if a guy will be underneath you or dropping from above just about to kill you. I am hoping to put out a map soon with multiple levels.

It also needs a good theme. Like level c10, the rain and fog makes the map mysterious. Just don't do one like Blood Gulch because that gets old really quick.

If sex is good exercise, why are there fat sluts?

with some flood sound scenery's throughout a swampy themed map. To give it a more spooky feel. :D

So a flood theme like c20 or c40 might be good?

actually c10. c20 is the library. Which just has a bit of a foggy atmosphere and flood in it. c40 is the Two Betryals level. Which is snowy and also has flood in it. More like a swampy feel like c10 (343 guility spark)

I like fun bright maps like tactics or bloodgulch. Another one I like are small maps that are fun with shottys, like chillout or wizard/derelict/chiron.

Ok, but what about gameplay?, just because it looks purty doesn't always make it a good map.

You should make your own. I would be interested to see what you make. I know i have personally always liked custom scenery. Some of the official halo scenery seems to be lacking I think. Good for it's time, but lacking for today.

The people working on the flood campaign came up with a really good idea: make permutations of the same scenery model, so that each time the level is slightly different. Also, Flood pods are awesome. You know, the things that burst open and spawn infection forms.

The flood pods seems like a floodifed ODST pod, What about flood scenery like in Cold Storage in H3, you know like flood biomass or one off those flood in the tube.

Not all good maps have to be complex for starters. Unless you have 1337 powas to dedicate to halo then don't make custom weapons.

Well I guess it doesn't to be complex but I don't want it to be like a box map. Btw since this is a "one-man band" I don't think I'll be doing custom weapons. Besides there are many good maps with the cassic weapons.

no the ones that grow on walls and explode when you shoot them. They are small, only large enough to contain one or two infection forms.

Oh, anyways (god I need to stop using that word) would a floodifed cave or maze seem good?

May I make a suggestion? Try making a closed-off area where there could be a crash site for a Covenant or a UNSC starship, and let that crashed ship penetrate into a cave area accessable outside. The starship could have been invaded by the flood or had entered a pocket where some flood were located (hence, the cave), and the cave can only be accessible either through the wreckage or through a tunnel outside.

Does that sound good?

-Kerian

That sounds pretty creative, but right now I'm out of town and using my dad's laptop so I won't be doing much for a while till I get back.
