What or who is BCE as it relates to Halo CE ? Also what does it mean to "rip" content as it relates to map content? Furthermore why is it mostly frowned upon by the community?

Ripping is basically extracting the tags from someone's map. If you rip out all the weapons and vehicles from someone's hard work, and put it into a lame Blood Gulch mod, they probably won't like it.

i have no idea what BCE is.. but to rip a tag , its when you open the .map file with HEK+ and extract the tags from the map.. it is sometimes frowned upon when you take custom tags (with out permission) because, imagine you spent 3/4 hours modeling a weapon and getting it in game, only to see people ripping it from your map? that's why. but, you can protect maps so they need a password to get the tags..

BCE is Bridge: CE. I never really followed it so the most I know about it is that you play as an ODST.
Ripping is taking something out of another map/game. Like if I went into Halo 3 and somehow took the High Ground model and put it into CE, that's ripping. It's worse if you say that it's yours.

It was going to be 3 single player maps that you play as an ODST. The project lead is Rob Oplawar, he hasn't been working on it much because of school and his programming project called Project Greeble. I wouldn't expect a release or not for several years... knowing Rob.

I want to get things straight:
1.) The view on BG mods is disgraceful. All of the older members of the community can say it because they've seen hundreds of them. In honesty, if you haven't been here since 06, you have no right saying it.
2.) Bridge CE has made more progress throughout the years Rob Oplawar has been making it. It is his side project in life. Duce is definitely right on this.
3.) Ripping shouldn't be frowned upon. It promotes people to expand their ideas and put more use into the tags flowing around the community. This same case goes for BG mods. Like it's been said, the emphasis on modeling in this community is horrid. The people who see ripping as negative are those who model with expensive applications. To me, I see ripping as way to put the access tags in the community to good use.
The most frowned upon thing in the community is leaking and botting. Those are both unacceptable. Edited by DarkHalo003 on Apr 12, 2009 at 06:25 PM Edited by DarkHalo003 on Apr 12, 2009 at 06:27 PM

BG: Blood Gulch mods. Ripping isn't bad as long as you ask permission if the readme requires so OR you rip a protected map. It's technically not stealing since Microsoft owns anything published in CE, but to be safe it IS best to ask for permission if that calls for it. If it's open sourced, then it's most likely meant to be that way.

Yes it is an april fools joke that has some truth behind it. The thing is, BCE will never be finished so it won't make a difference if content is being used in it.

I believe the only person who is working on BCE is Rob Oplawar. He gets help from other people, but I don't think there is an official "team", so they don't call themselves anything.

Oh God, they've already instilled a dislike of ripping in you and you hardly know what it is. People only look down on it because A) it's *technically* stealing, and B) you didn't work as hard as them to get the end result. Ripping is fine if you can actually rip it and put it in-game and do an excellent job with it, or if you rip the model to use as a reference when making your own.

I say BG mods are fine. They are centers of open sourced tags, so instead of searching for a long time, just browse the BG mods, download a few, and rip from them. Then check and distribute credit, setting up a few safeties for people who hunt for stolen credit.
