Here's a very important topic I think would be cool to discuss. Please take this seriously.

After reading the article (http://www.gamespot.com/features/6207309/index.html), I thought long and hard about weather or not I (or any of you) are at risk of being addicted to video games.

I concluded that I am not an addict, but I have to be careful because I could if I decide to go overboard. As modder's, we spend considerable amounts of time with video game, thus we feel very comfortable around them. However, we spend time creating models, textures, and mods. This is what I believe keeps us from being actual addicts. Its because we are constantly recieving feedback from the real world when we post our work, and well as letting ourselves be influenced by the people around us. As modders/artists we are very social and creative, thus we cannot and will not tollerate an environment we cannot change to our will. This is very different from the average addict because an addict integrates his or herself into the game. So, I conclude that we, as modder's are NOT video game addicts as long as we continue to socialize, gather peoples opinions, remain confident in ourselves, retain the willingness to learn (software, skills, and from eachother), a keep modding. The key is to believe in yourself (as gay as it sounds).

Here is what I firmly believe. For those that dont know, I turned 18 last december. The first noneducational game I ever owned (or my parents owned) was in 2005. This has head my to believe that children under the age of 12 SHOULD NOT play video games (especially boys) because of their addictive personalities. I know some of you are enraged because you played games back when you were 6. Let me give you an example. Remember your favorite movie back when you were a kid? Mine was Batman. I had a child addiction on batman. I loved it, and had all the toys for it. I KNOW you had something similar. At least batman made me play "pretend" outside. Imagine what a video game did to a kid.

There are my thought. Please post your own. Im curious to know your stories and thoughts. Please take this seriously.

So because you got a game when you were 15, you think everyone has to wait? The world does not revolve around you.

I agree. Been playing since age 5 and I'm not stopping anytime soon. And yes, I do have a life outside.

I agree with Rooster's post, it can lead to addiction. The one thing we have to remember is that, the game designers dont spend their time playing the game, they get people to do it for them, hence testers, and give them feedback, I mean, once the end product is out, then they can play it by all means.

Honestly, I think some games are taken to seriously, and some people just need to chill the hell out.

I agree with Rooster. Even though I do do other things with my friends out side of modding and playing video games, Modeling and being a Modder really helps not being addicted. There's a bunch of kids at my school who play video game's (epically halo 3, and fallout, and are oppsesed at saying random phrases from the internet..) way to much and I can see them pretty much getting know where in life except for being decent at Math. That is total Irony to me becuase I just barley got a A in math LOL 89.9 ftw

I have a hard time believing someone can be a video game "addict". I don't seen anyone accusing people of being work addicts because they work 9-5 every week, so how can you justify large periods of time spent doing something you like being an addiction? Granted, noone likes work, but you get the idea.

I really don't know if I am a addict or not. Because I mean if there is no snow what else are you supposed to do?! I mean I spend some time with my family and I have my friends over often when they have time to come over. Also what would you consider as a friend. Does a friend have to come over to your house or you go over to their house to be a friend? Because i have alot of people i talk to at school in contact.

Oh, thanks for pointing that out. I hadn't noticed that I was an addict. [/sarcasm] Next time I want your opinion on me I will ask for it. Until I do, you would do well to shut up.

My GPA dropped a notch ever since I began modding Halo back in October. If I don't work harder, I might lose that 4.0 GPA...

My day consists of throwing my backpack on the sofa when I get home, getting in front of the computer, staying here until 6 or 7 for dinner. Then I immediately return til 10 pm, when I go to bed. Then, I do my homework the next day in class, right before it's due. It's a wonder how I still have all As.

Asian Mom's are so damn strict, if i had 1 C, hell even 1 B my mom goes berserk.

the lowest grade she actually accepts is a B+ and that pisses me off since it's so hard to get good grades in highschool.

I'm getting all A's and B's except for one C in French (gotta love it xD). I play rugby, soccer, and somewhat football. I get my exercise. I play Games now and then. You also gotta love the 4x4 schedule. Less classes >=)

I'm a smart Jew =)

This is what I heard you say as I read that: "She wants the absolute best for me and I want to kiss her for pushing me to make a better life for myself after I get out of school."

Be lucky that your mom accepts a B+. My dad got really mad at me when I had 2 bare As last semester (89.7 and 89.9).

This, I realized this a bit too late. nobody was pushing me, and I wish that someone was when I was still as young as you guys.

My mother was pushing me all through school. I wish I had pushed myself. I had to learn not to be lazy the hard way (homeless for a bit after I moved out of my mother's house, then Marine Corps boot camp and subsequent service), and all of those little tidbits of advice from my mother, and screaming and punitive IT (incentive training) that came from my drill instructors ring true to this day (Go ahead and laugh; I'm serious though). I find myself correcting other people in my head now (even outwardly, sometimes), it's stuck with me so much.

As for the topic at hand: I'd classify myself as an avid video game player. When I'm not at work, exercising, or studying, I'm often playing a game, whether by myself or with friends (depends on what time I have to get up the next day). I always have been this way. The key is not to let it control your life. Be responsible, do everything you're supposed to do (and strive to be the best in everything you do), and enjoy yourself in your spare time. Whether you're a kid or an adult, it still applies. Nothing kills motivation like a lack of downtime.

[/end preaching]
