Don't capitalize every word in the sentence. That might help. You're trying to say:
Ok fine, I need a little work.
By the way, please stop spamming me with PMs.

I'm not an addict, but games are merely something I do to consume boredom or have fun when I cannot otherwise. I have ever since I got my first Gameboy Pocket. I'm now 16, so I've grown up playing handheld games. That got me liking games for the most part and I find myself playing old games far more than new ones. I'm not addicted because I have other things in my life I would easily rather spend time doing. Enough said, here's my opinion:
If you're young (little kid) and you play with a gameboy, then you're doing okay. If you're a little kid playing Xbox 360 on a gorgeous day outside playing an M-rated game, then you need to step away from the controller. Why? Because it is EXTRAORDINARILY hazardous for your health. You have not learned self control to a substantial extent and need Vitamin D from the sun. You need to focus on your real life first before your virtual one. When you grow up, you won't regret spending time outdoors. I greatly regret I never spent as much time with other people as I should have. If anything, make your gaming at least social.
I spend way too much time on the computer. Once the mod is done, I probably won't be nearly on as much. Why? Because I don't feel inclined to be online other than for social reasons. No one here should ask how much I spend on the Computer because I'm on it periodically throughout the day. Don't do this. It is bad for you.
Second off, everyone here, GRADES COME BEFORE GAMES. I'm on the verge of failing Spanish 3 (due to my laziness) and Math is now in the C+ range from a B- (I'm not gifted in math in the slightest). Take care of your grades and make sure they're where they need to be. Get a good education and play games when your grades are not at stake. I'm basically playing grade ninja right now. I have no A's in any of my classes, half of them being laziness, half of them not my fault (crap work and bad teachers). Don't slip up on what really counts. The games are never going to leave. Your future can.
I have a social life, but it has been very difficult to manage due to its own complications and other stuff that wold cause your brains to explode. I just wanted to throw in there that I'm not a total loser.lol. Edited by DarkHalo003 on Apr 6, 2009 at 11:00 PM

iv been playing since i was 2 years old. original super mario bros, then the original zelda. i missed the SNES scene somehow, but picked up with zelda oot for the n64. played that trough like 10 times. im 15 now, i dont do much other than spend time on the computer and talk to people. do i think its an addiction? not in itself. an addiction is a type of dependency. if you turn to ANYTHING to ease your mind repeatedly, you almost inevitably develop a mental dependency on it. thats why people who say marijuana isnt addictive are only half right. it doesnt do anything to your body physically to make you addicted, but if you turn to it as an antidepressant or whatever, you can develop a mental addiction which is just as bad. in short, jack thompson can shove it. edit: as far as it affecting everyday life, i lead sigma in halo modding, i make friends with almost everybody, i make honor roll on my own (and i was 1 point away from high honors last semester), joined my highschool's robotics team in its first year and programmed the robot. i later on field coached 2 of my team mates at each round of the tournament and we took second in state. have videogames caused me problems? no. am i addicted? no. do i love videogames and know a whole bunch about them? yes. hell yes. edit2: Quote: --- Original message by: AlwinRoth Asian Mom's are so damn strict, if i had 1 C, hell even 1 B my mom goes berserk.
the lowest grade she actually accepts is a B+ and that pisses me off since it's so hard to get good grades in highschool. i challenge this statement. i do minimal studying and achieve A's and B's with no problem. im in full honors at a private school. you have to listen to your teacher. edit3: oh wow. apparently in some cases, below a 90 is still an A. in my case, an A- is 90-92, A is 93-97, and A+ is 98-100. I don't believe that you should not let a child below 12 play computer games. Its the 21st century. Almost everyone has computer. If a child below 12 doesn't have had any experience of computer games, he will be missing out alot as on social terms. Then again, there is a limit, like in my country(Polamee you should know this...) a 12 year old boy kicked another boy for not tell him his password to a game. So like, Dennis said. Balance. And my dad is telling me to get off the computer now. Edited by jacknme on Apr 7, 2009 at 06:09 AM

meh i may seem like im on alot. (which is true) and i do say that im a adict to modding halo. Though thats not all i do on the computer. And i do alot of exercise. Since im a 3rd dan black belt at Karate and a black belt at Taekwondo. (but i just do karate now) and ive became 2nd national at taekwondo. And 2nd state karate and 1st national in karate in 2006 and 2007. I get good grades. (A's and B's and rarly C's.) and i go to a private school. and im only 14. Pretty fit. But even though i like halo and modding it. It has socially pulled me down. Not much since i got a pretty good social life outside my computer. But it has. And now i have to teach myself to lay off the computer sometimes. Before it gets worse and ide would eventually be on the computer evey hour of the day... So for all the people out there that are addicted to computers like myself. Teach yourself to keep away more often. I've started and ive began to put my social life back on track again. So i would suggest to do the same. Edited by sierra117 on Apr 7, 2009 at 06:23 AM

http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2008/12/boy_killed_mom_and_shot_dad_ov.htmlThis is more related to what we are talking about. I agree that game addiction is a major threat and pschological disorder that must be prevented; I spuuort the development of treatment clinics for this. I am wondering though, is anyone addicted to modding Custom Edition? That would be interesting. I would like to disagree with your point: Quote: Here is what I firmly believe. For those that dont know, I turned 18 last december. The first noneducational game I ever owned (or my parents owned) was in 2005. This has head my to believe that children under the age of 12 SHOULD NOT play video games (especially boys) because of their addictive personalities. Right. I have been playing (and modding) Hce since I was eleven (I was not on the forums then), playing Halo since I was nine (I am now 13). Even when I was nine, I understood that the AIs in the game were not living beings, but computer illusions programmed to react to stimuli made by the player. The appearance of the Flood did spook me a little, but I still knew that it was not reality, but rather just a freakish video game character. And, when you said that sharing maps here builds up social skills, the same can be said for video or computer games on the internet which give the player the freedom to talk to, trade, or fight with others virtually. Therefore, your point does not seem valid; sharing maps here is about as good as playing one of those online games which many youths get addicted to. My regular day consists of waking up, going to school, returning at 2 or so, doing random stuff like write (I'm working on a science fiction story), do homework, or laze around. I only feel motivated to start working on the forums and hce or play any games just before dinner at 6:30 or so. I then eat dinner, continue with the comp stuff I was doing just now, and usually quit before 10. At 10, I clear up homework and such, before heading off to sleep and do a bit of reading at 11. One of the real "untested" harms is the internet. Since 2000, the internet has expanded widely. In my opinion, the "newer" generation that is greatly affected by the internet are those born after 1998. I started playing an MMO at the age of 10. My younger cousin started playing an MMO at 6. It is "untested" because we haven't really seen the long term effects on us yet. This newer generation is exposed to the internet more than any of us here. They grew up with the internet. And this is perhaps may going to bring some problems. Vulgarities. I wouldn't be surprised if the newer generation start using vulgarities before they know the meaning. How many "bad words" people shout out in games in a minute? Now, about MMOs. They seem to "control" people more than other genres. They are addictive enough to make a person betray his friend by stealing his virtual items. They are addictive enough for people to use their money to buy virtual items. So hell, the next generation's fate seems uncertain to me. Of course, the easiest way is to buy one of those biege case computers(what the **** happened to them? They were the de facto in those days) so they can't play the new kind of games where everyone shouts f*** once every minute.

Yep its sad times for the recent generations if everyone around you are addicts to computer games and the internet - it will only lead to you becoming one to fit in socially.
Yes I've played games since I was 3, and even back then I wasn't an addict (Super Mario Bros 3 FTW. Street Fighter FTW. MegaMan FTW. Starfox 64/ Lylat Wars FTW, and all other SNES & N64 games. Oh, and don't forget dreamcast, like Sonic Adventure, Shenmue I & II, PowerStone and Soul Caliber. Might as well drift to PlayStation, with Driver and Driver 2). But I don't think everyone here who says they're not addicts really aren't. When I was in doubt, I asked myself "Could I really not play any video games for a certain period of time?" Of course I loved to play them, and they were a part of my life, but sometimes you have to discover who you really are.
To find out, I planned not to play any computer games at all for 21 days. I ended up not playing for 5-6 weeks (40 days). Now I am not in doubt in the slightest if I say I am not an addict. I suggest people should try this for themselves.
As Dennis, as well as my parents, older relatives, and others in whom I look up to, have said, Balance and Consistency is key. There is no point trying to suddenly stop playing games for a year or something stupid like that, or you could end up worse than before. What you would want to do, if you are addicted or near to addiction of course, is to gradually play less and less, until it is no longer a part of your daily 'schedule'.
Some may disagree with me, but I think that if gaming is part of your daily schedule, you depend on it, as much as you depend on sleep or eating, or having your morning shower (unfortunately, there are some very disgusting people in my school who do not depend on the latter), and are therefore, in a sense, addicted to it. So to sift out this addiction, you should have it only as an occasional extra to your daily schedule, maybe playing one or two games every other day or so, as long as you have your main priorities dealt with (homework/project work, socialising, SHOWERING! etc.).
I know I've said a mouthful (and I guess I am used to this sort of thing Lololllollollol), but it's high time people start being truthful with themselves. Edited by k9colin on Apr 7, 2009 at 09:46 AM

but it's high time people start being truthful with themselves. Edited by k9colin on Apr 7, 2009 at 09:46 AM lies to himself!!!!! GGL: Your pretty!!! GGL really??? GGL: Yes (sneaky little laugh) well i see videogames as a hobby But the thing is with vidoegames and gamers people think that gamers arent sociaal or only play video games So most people are saying I DO HAVE A SOCIAL LIFE I DO I DO I DO IDK but if 1 of you really have a problem it is better to accept it other wise it wont change not saying that everybody is lying who is saying that their not addicted a lot of gamers out there are indeed the i give my whole freaking life up for my guild at world of warcraft!!!! And they ruin it for the ''normal gamers'' who do have a normal live And it isnt about spending time behind a computer wich is what people usually ask. I model in 3ds max most of my time when i'm behind my pc But I model because i'm a creative person And i Just model for stuff for halo ce because actually use the stuff that you make is extra motivating but If i didnt had a pc I would take a piece of paper and a pencil and would draw stuff So do i spend a lot more hours behind my pc then most people yes but it depends I often hear people whine about: i was bored and watched some tv for a few hours and those same people are blaming me for spending the same amount of time behind a pc so i wont be bored, being creative or playing a video game or watching tv on my pc people often see tv and pc as 2 different things but when it comes down to it your still watchign at a damn screen it's jsut how active you are while watching the screen

anybody who kills their parents over any sort of addiction has some mental issues that developed before the games. if someone makes you g to rehab for drug abuse, you dont kill them. moreso with a video game. the kid clearly had issues before halo. also if the killing was inspired by halo, he would have thrown grenades first
