Well, it doesn't matter, because he won't be in this campaign. Unless someone wants to share my burden of having to do the entire AI planning, scripting, placement, etc... for the god-knows-how-many missions?

ok, sure....no Zealot. How many missions? I'll tell you what the cutscenes should be for the first few, but I have to go for a bit.

ok
look at how some of the cutscenes worked for Halo CE's original campaign. Aside from the important ones, the levels usually start with Master Chief inside a Pelican with Foehammer telling you what the deal is, then dropping you off on the battlefield.
on the level, Halo, the level could start with the Elite Major character in a Drop Ship(the Spirit?), with someone telling you you're mission objectives before dropping you off.
I have an idea, the way the Elite dialogue for Halo 1 was made was Sarge's voice, lowered, then played in reverse right? Well we could have someone, I could do it, to read a script, lets say the script says...
"you're mission is to locate and capture captain keyes, and bring him to the Truth and Reconciliation."
I could read that, then, modify the voice by lowering it and playing it backwards, and have captions on the bottom. This way the voices will still sound alien like the Halo 1 Elites talk, and they won't sound like teenagers..!
how bout that?
I donno bout you but I disliked how the Elites in Halo 2 and 3 suddenly spoke english Edited by Venom1660 on Jan 29, 2009 at 09:19 PM Edited by Venom1660 on Jan 29, 2009 at 09:20 PM

Would you like to watch three hours worth of cutscenes only hearing "Blarg Honk Blarg Blarg" ? Or do you mean in combat?

3 hours huh? where the hell do you get 3 hours? These are short little cut scenes...and yeah this could apply in combat too.
and seriously, I'd rather hear that then just some schmucks that sound exactly human beings doing voices for Covenant. Alien tounges you guys.

Just lower the voice, but don't reverse it. (Use Audacity and lower the pitch by 6 semitones. That's around the same pitch that was used to lower Johnson's voice for the elites.) That will get rid of the whole "why does a supposedly deadly elite sound like my little brother" problem, and still make the dialogue understandable.

uhh yeah guilty spark always spoke english. And Elites didn't.
and yeah just lowering the voices could work but I still like the fact that the Elites spoke a different language than humans did. In Halo 2 I started to dislike the depiction of the Covenant...it's like in the first game they're all mysterious, laughing in alien tongues as they say, talking to each other and not being able to understand them as they planned their attack during the little skirmishes you have with them.
Then it's like Halo 2, ohh they speak English now, in fact they're just like us!

I understand why you think that, but think about being surrounded by allies and not having a clue what they're saying. If a fellow elite says "byniree-noremashye!" instead of "incoming grenade!" chances are you'll get nailed by that nade. It might actually screw up game play more than you think. The reason why it was acceptable in Halo 1 is because they were just your foes. In this campaign you're working on, and in Halo 2 and Halo 3, elites are also allies, so the voices need to change. By the way, here's an example of my voice, a simple computer mic, and Audacity resulting in an actually legit-sounding elite: http://files.filefront.com/elite+rip+balls+offwav/;13137952;/fileinfo.htmlYeah, I know, dumb choice of dialogue. I think it's funny though.

I hope you're not suggesting that we change the voices for the Halo 1 Elites...
Plus that's what Grunts are for...! They're always screaming "grenade!!" when you throw grenades at the Covenant. And you should never not have a few grunts on the squad. Elites say things and do pointing animations when an enemy is close, so when you hear them say stuff like "AHHH ROLEMMUPP" you know there's an enemy nearby. I assume you all know Halo's campaign pretty well, and can probably beat it on Legendary no problem. You should know what I'm talking about. It's all part of the fun of being on the other team.

Good point. But, you don't have to re-record an entire dialogue. Don't get me wrong, I know that would be a pain in the rear, it took me weeks to record an entire dialogue just for a marine using my voice. You could take the original recordings and just re-reverse them so they're understandable again (still deep voice of course). Edit: BUT don't listen to me. That's just the way I'd do it. It's your mod, do what you feel. Just giving my suggestions. Edited by Me KS on Jan 29, 2009 at 10:41 PM

YES. It's fine. You know why? Because that's how Bungie made it; that's how Halo 1 was. Don't ask me why they did it, but I loved what they did. Halo 1 is the best of the 3 games, why are we even suggesting changing awesome things? It's perfect as is.

Ah. I guess the language filter installed into Mark VI armor shouldn't translate elite voices into english. Nice. So all the work ONI put into developing a filter just so Master Chief / Specops teams can understand alien language has gone to waste.
