we have the level structure for the first level don't we?
My vision was that in order to diversify the levels you have different allies in the levels and you get to play as different Elite ranks. I think it'd be more fun to start the campaign as an Elite Major that commands a basic squad of Covenant:
red and orange Grunts Minor Jackals Minor Elites
then the same character (can be Zuka I guess, but we don't have to go by the books) would get promoted to Spec-Ops for an important mission, and you get to command Spec-Ops troops:
Spec Ops Fuel Rod Grunts Spec-Ops Elites (they throw grenades!)
There could be some levels where you play as the Arbiter when he's a Gold Elite, before he gets the Arbiter gear in Halo 2, wielding an energy sword, commanding orange grunts and Jackal Majors, and Hunters.
This way we could explore all of the factions of Covenant, and not play as the same Elite rank throughout the whole game. The story can be what you want it to be. I like the Arbiter being in it though, there could even be a level where you play as the Shipmaster, a White Elite, if you want.
Agree? Disagree?

Different factions? If you were to play as a grunt against marines, you would die quickly, unless your health was amped up. Elite's would fare better, and different ranks would be OK, but it would be a lot of work just to explain why we jumped to this new character, and explain who this character is. And if we were to play as a Hunter, there would be no challenge. Jackal? No. Ugly.

haha, no I wasn't saying that I wanted to play as different factions, I said commanding different factions...I just wanted to control different Elite ranks. The Elite starts as an Elite Major, then gets promoted to Spec-Ops for the last missions. Then a new character, or the Arbitor, for the Gold Elite.
Playing as the same Elite rank the whole game would be less interesting...

The Arbiter rank isn't gold. Unless you mean playing as the Arbiter, which I abhor. Specops is high enough. Promotions work better, but introducing brand new characters? Think about the work.

I suppose you're right. The Arbiter doesn't have a name other than "The Arbiter", so yeah, I was talking about the guy in Halo 2 and 3, before he becomes the Arbiter, when he's a Gold Elite.
with the promotion idea that would be an easy way to change the Elite Ranks throughout the campaign. And I'm not talkin about a different rank for every level. Like in the first levels you are an Elite Major, then for a level or two you could cut to a new character, a Gold Elite. It probably shouldn't be the Arbiter though. There could be just two characters, an Elite Major that gets promoted to a Spec-Ops Elite for the last levels, and a Gold Elite.
I'm just suggesting ways to spice up and diversify the levels, they don't even have to be characters with complete backrounds or anything. I suggest some of the levels starting with you're character getting dropped off by a Covenant drop ship. I beg your pardon. Thel 'Vadam has a name. Quote: --- Original message by: Venom1660 with the promotion idea that would be an easy way to change the Elite Ranks throughout the campaign. It probably shouldn't be the Arbiter though. There could be just two characters, a Red Elite that gets promoted to a Spec-Ops Elite for the last levels, and a Gold Elite.
So we would have to define different characters every time? Tell a new story for every new mission? That sounds easy. Especially for the person who has to do the entire AI and scripting by himself.

no you fool!! not a different character every time! did you not understand what I typed? That character is a Major Elite for the first levels, and then (the same character that's the Major Elite in the first levels) gets promoted to Spec-Ops for the last levels, where Spec-Ops Elites show up. In between, there is a Gold Elite character that you play as for like 2 levels.
and by the way, I only played the Halo games and as I recall the Arbiter isn't referred as anything else but the Arbiter, unless I missed someone say his real name in the first cutscene in Halo 2. I didn't read the books. Edited by Venom1660 on Jan 29, 2009 at 08:19 PM

I refuse to implement the Zealot into the campaign. That way, there will only be one character. And how are we going to "promote" this elite? And stop insulting Thel 'Vadam, and call him by his name.
