We DO NOT use Sketch Up models in game, we merely use it to shape what we want a model to look like in game.

And for a fact, it doesn't really matter (shouldn't to you).

We do stuff differently than others, nothing wrong with that at all.

We did not make it (the entire model), but when its done, it will be over 95% ours (5% = credit to Rockstar for making the vehicle design.)

To create a guideline (a.k.a. reference) for what you want your weapon to look like.

Its like a rough draft, and the final.
(rough = Sketch Up, Final = 3Ds Max)

Im saying, if there going to make the thing in sketchup why recreate it in 3dsmax? Theres no point. Unless you can export from sketchup..

I know perfectly well what you are trying to say. Your point of view is that if they already make it in sketchup, then why bother to re-make it in 3ds max. However, the point is that they merely play around with the model in sketchup to get an idea of what they are going to make. Then they actually make it in 3ds max.

unfortunately, i didnt see what your message said before you edited it. they concept the stuff in sketchup using basic shapes. maybe killerkip cant model in max? doesnt he have another guy that does the modeling? kip makes the concepts in sketchup and his modeler guy makes the detailed product in max.
how difficult was that? really.

That truck is how it was imported from GTA San Andreas. I just gave a link to a couple of pics.

Oh, and if making concepts is a waste of time, how did Bungie make Halo 3? "DRAWINGS", its just that Sketch Up provides an easier way to do it.

Using it is not a crime, nor a waste of time, it is useful in designing stuff.

Why criticize the way people do things? If he wants to model using Sketch-up as a concept first, then let him. It is much easier to create a model when you have an idea what the heck you are doing. That way, it can come out looking much better.

Yes, but I am not going to pay $500 to upgrade ($500 last time I checked).
And when you export Sketch Up models, they tend to mess up.

Good idea though, if I am not the one paying for it.

That is retarded... its a waste of time, and pointless.
What is retarded, pointless and a waste of time is people arguing over the method the team chooses to make their creations. You are free to not like the finished product but arguing over their methods is like telling someone he is getting dressed the wrong way. Who the hell cares as long as the socks match, are on his feet and not over his shoes?

So you use Sketchup to "shape" out your stuff, which is using up time, and wasteing time. When you could easily do the EXACT same thing in proper moddeling programs.

That is retarded... its a waste of time, and pointless. And get some better shaders for that truck. And textures.

you are one of the last people i would expect a comment like that from. everything about it is just ignorant especially after i posted a valid reason why kip might use sketchup for concepts.

Ah, more halomaps.org drama.

Let the guy use what he wants. It's the point that he does get it ingame, and he has proof of that. If he gets it ingame and creates nice models with it none of you should have a problem. Higuy, you are the last person to talk. You use 3ds max, but your models look sloppy as hell sometimes! The truth hurts, so stop being a prick and get used to how other members work. That goes for all of you. It's sad to see this guy just trying to show off what him and his team have made and then goes ahead and gets destroyed by these kids here that think they are elitists, which you are clearly not. As masters would say, he is doing this for fun. He isn't a damn game developer, he wants to do this just to get it ingame and share his work with the community.

For once a guy a is doing something cool and original, and instead of encouraging him you just attack him. He shouldn't release this to any of you pricks.

That was not bandwagoning.
The manor in how you post is going to influence the next posts, and kidd often says things that could either just have not been said or were said for the sole intention of provocation.
I still talk to Kidd sometimes and give the benefit of the doubt, i dont entirely dislike him at all.
I guess its just how i interpret things.
No hard feelings :)

also, Chains please dont do it.

Seeing this thread hit the second page with nothing but upchuck, I am back once again to restore whatever balance there is left in this thread.

We are working on the Halo: Fall of Reach movie. It is going GREAT so far, we having Fabian writing the script, we have somewhat of a plan for the Detail we want for the movie, and currently, the movie lacks modeling help. There is a slim chance we could ever make all of the models by ourselves.

Anyone who wants to help make a model just Xfire me, it would be cool to get some help from the community. (And I did not forget to include, that you would get full credit for what you have done.)

The models we are making will range from 1,000 to around 300,000 polygons. Its not for ingame, its for a High Detail movie.

Why is it when one user that posted something a long time ago with Sketch-up, had no idea what he was doing, is getting bashed on now and you guys are busting his balls for it. Relax, he is only using it for concepts. But I do have to agree with the work. Work pl0x.

I highly doubt it until you start posting pictures of progress, and not scripts, models, textures, settings, do you know how to even do particles and proper lightning in max? If not, this will not be possible, and do you even know how to high def renders and the time it would take to render all this?

Where did I state anything relating this quote above me, I was asking for help, and informing, not showing off, or even mentioning finished items.

And since the models are for a movie, I would never release images, it would be like telling everyone what to expect. The whole point of the movie is for entertainment, not for "proof".

And I will definatly NOT release the script.
