^... film recorder like in halo 3? If so Would you need to modify game engine or script then go back and watch the film and take scrrenshots of it??

Is it possible?

Because that's the trial version. Go buy the real one.

You can use paypal, or a regular credit card. I just used my debit card, because it goes through like a credit, and they will send you the activation code shortly after.

you MAY want to try the trial first. my fraps likes to freeze and crash my halo. i dont like it, but fraps does apparently. although fraps works well with morrowind, gunz, oblivion, heretic II, and real time player (no seriously, fraps can take screen shots of real time player). it just has an issue with halo for me. idk why. it didnt before when i made my "epic montage", but now it kind of freaks out on me if i record for more than like 6 seconds. any ideas?

So uh, to answer the question:

No, Bungie had to modify the engine (which I believe is illegal unless you have rights to it) in order to get the film recorder to work. It works by recording the actions and then recreating them using the game engine. It doesn't record 'film.' The amount of scripting it would need to be possible in Halo 1 would be ridiculous.

It was a joke hurrrr guys.

anyways, I never really liked fraps. Compression is pretty bad, but then again what is. I couldn't even upload a 30 second clip from fraps to youtube because the file was too big.

What flavor is that sauce?

ROFL. Just use the Xfire video recorder. Its free, and works fine.

It also takes up massive amounts of your Hard Drive, Lags out the game, and has pretty terrible quality.

well the halo 3 playback feature im told is recorded network data that is replayed back through engine, in theory if you made a device or program that did the same thing (playback network data as if you were runing your own game) you would have a playback feature. the only problem is you couldn't fastfoward or rewind unless it was something that recorded the movement of vehicles and weapons too

but then again i may be pretty well wrong

Actually, Bungie used the "Theater" mode in Marathon. Also they tried using it in the Halo 2 beta but couldn't get it to work properly.

let me give you my barron-tastic opinion

1*gamecam leaves a ugly water mark and has the worst fps i have ever seen
2*xfire game recorder is only good for high end computers like mine (send me a message and i will tell you my specs)
3* fraps is the way to go... if you want your videos to look profesional and not like a 4 year old kid made it then go with fraps. It provides a consistant fps and also records audio with good quality and you can change the settings to record your voice to for machinima purposes or montage making or whatever you can think of.

4* Anything else probably wasnt made for games and will have bad resolution settings.

my barron-tastic opinion

Yea, Fraps is the way to go for Machinima purposes. If you plan to make a montage then any recorder would work fine.

That was the worst bump. Of all time. Also, fraps registered is awesome, and much better than gamecam.
