Photoshop CS3 (Although extremely limited) can work with 3D objects. What you have to remember is Photoshop is more a 2D composting program, not a full 3D app like Zbrush.

It's better because it is free/open source. Besides, 3d painting isn't that interesting... Just learn how to use the material editor in Max effectively, and learn to use Mental Ray or Vray... and it will look a lot better... Edited by SiMuLaCrUm on Oct 28, 2008 at 06:42 PM

GNU Image Manipulation Program. Photoshop is overpriced and GIMP can do everything it can do plus some (such as a flame fractal generator for those who are too lazy to figure out how to use Apophysis)

GIMP is the name of a free, open source editing program you fool. but i suppose you are one of the ones who just pirates software, am i right? do not force opinions, especially your own ill-referenced ones, as fact. nowhere does it say homosexuality is wrong. edit: also, if "get in my penis" is the first thing you think of when you see GIMP, then i think you need to rethink "I HATE GAY PEOPLE" as a public statement Edited by Donut on Oct 28, 2008 at 07:31 PM

For a homophobe, you sure are obsessed with "semon" (judging by your avatar quotes both here and at modacity), which by the way is not the right spelling. Whats wrong with gimp anyways? It serves its purpose.

Photoshop is overpriced and GIMP can do everything it can do plus some (such as a flame fractal generator for those who are too lazy to figure out how to use Apophysis) No. gimp fails it has horrbiel filters. the brushes are real bad, its horrible quality. photoshop my be a little expensive but its worth it to have one of the best painting programs. not all free things are good. ex : gimp cause it sucks.. The filters are nearly identical to photoshops and there are good free custom ones out there. Seriously free > $4000 The brushes GIMP comes with are good too, and there are free brushes for it out there too. Just because Photoshop is the "best" (remember, that's just an opinion, a tiny little chemical reaction in your head) mainstream program out there doesn't mean there are better lesser known (not as expensive) programs out there. Just because the pros use it doesn't mean it is the best.

Referring to sexual terms is often a sign of immaturity, and trying to use sexual talk to make themselves sound older or more mature. @ Your second statement. Nothing is wrong with GIMP. Its a great program. Not only because its free, but it still does offer alot of functionality. It may not be photoshop but the 4000 dollar price difference makes up for that.

You dont need to seeing as how you are just really editing a tiff thats already being applied to the object. You just keep working with the max scene and change the .obj/tiff in ps. Its like someone smashed Deep Paint into Photoshop, dont know if you can layer by applied materials or not but that was deep paints best asset.

Edited by SiMuLaCrUm on Oct 28, 2008 at 06:42 PM Actually 3D painting can be extremely useful and in some cases can probably speed up the process of texturing an object, it can also easily help putting more detail into a 3D object. Mental Ray and Vray are great for rendering(if you have the time...or a BOXX) but I'm assuming the OP concern was of how things looked with HCE. Edited by YakZSmelk on Oct 29, 2008 at 02:14 AM

so is posting images such as fail/BAN hammer/ and so forth. and as it been said before gimp is an awesome program and iv used it in the past it all depends on which 1 your more comfortable with and which one can help u exceed in what u want to do (gimp does this) but i find photoshop more comfortable for me thus the reason i use it.
