I have a tablet :D I'll try to get random tutorials, but I'm using mudbox to texture hard objects, that might be why it doesnt looks nice, I'm sure it interferes with the smoothing groups and I have to make my model looks nice with only 1 SG. quadrify mesh modifier helped me a lot

ive been working on modeling very little (not that i ever worked on it much anyway so im not exactly a good modeler) for several months. but ive been working on this a little bit every now in then, and although its not saiyng much, its probably the best model ive ever made. first attempt at full organic modeling and any sort of texturing, although only the chest is done. IT IS WISE to notice that these are screenies of vray in actual viewport, not renders, as i cant actually setup vray renders properly. the main chest texture is much darker normally AND the back blue thing is much better looking. but the appearence of the model (with the shadows and such) looks much nicer with vray (high kb warning maybe ID remember if halomaps scales). oh and the fingers and toes are meh but i didnt spend much time as I AM making gloves and shoes. without the excessive polies for the not visible bare torso and legs, and if i low polied the pants (there are polies coating the inside as i have a shell modifier) i would guess 2.5k polies. finally, i consider the wrapparound metal/blue thing a PSG (personal shield generator) as this model is just something for an idea i had for a game which most likely will never happen. closer view of the textures which the main one, as mentioned, is brighter than usual. and it does look strange because gimp distorted it to make seamless, as i have 0 patience to sit there and figure out how to make it seamless without doing it automatically. and this one looks MUCH MUCH better without the other vray lights because its transparent and self illuminated, which the vraylights disabled in the view for some reason regardless of how good it looks to compared to everything else people model here (and on the unity3d forums) im pretty proud of myself from coming so far from this (my first model several years ago) So, um, what do you guys think?Edited by abkarch on Sep 30, 2012 at 04:17 PM

How does smoothing groups take forever? Select with element in editable mesh BEFORE you weld the vertex, first assign the smoothing groups before welding. Monitor took me 1 minute for smoothing groups but masterchief took a little bit longer (still not THAT long.)

For the Monitor, you can simply give it a Sentinel Beam as a weapon and give it 0 for offset(in projectiles section) and 0 error.I think that could work as a placeholder. :3

I prefer to not have them in video games. In real life, there are no graphics settings so I have to coexist with it,whether I like it or not. I have a computer that can handle those things but they use too much processing power and I just can't really have them get in my way of demolishing enemies. Also, lens flare and bloom wouldn't normally be as "strong" as they're usually set in video games (unless you live in a sunny place with tons of reflective materials).

LOL! I'm on a six core 3.4 GHz 8GB ddr3 1600 with a 550 ti. I could give two craps about anything that takes processing power. My view still says 60 FPS. Wish I had better internet though. That's the only way my gameplay could get better.

Wish I had better internet though. That's the only way my gameplay could get better. Wait... have you got exactly the same roundabout computer I'm getting? (Six core 3.4Ghz(FX 6100), 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz, 550 Ti) But anyway, I agree. People should just get better computers. My computer I have atm probably couldn't handle crazy lens effects either. That's why I'm getting a new mid-end computer, that's only costing me a little over £300. You could spend £100 less to get a slightly less powerful computer that can handle just as many effects on an old game like Halo, spending about as much as you would on a 360 or PS3. He was merely pointing out that if your computer isn't powerful enough to run effects like that, that's your problem. The only way it can be solved is buy upgrading. It's a good option even if it can cost a little bit of money. But as I mentioned, a set of powerful components is about the same price as a current-gen console, and boasts more power and higher fps in most games.

I didn't really mean to be hurtful or anything in my comment, all I'm saying Halo is a 2000 game and it's almost 2013. More of a "omg come on people almost 13 years later come on!" So if you take that as hurtful or more of a wake up call or that I'm saying most lower-middle grade computers today should be able to handle it, that's just how you take it.

Sort of, DSalimander will help me out. I've been applying materials\proper IDs and unwrapping most of the day. Probably going to stick with the H3 textures. Some IDs are wrong or UVs still not done so don't point out any mistakes. Also does anyone know how to animate scenery? The fans need to spin... Edited by Jesse on Oct 6, 2012 at 01:22 AM

For fans you would need to make 4 frames (or 5) animation with it spinning and export with animation exporter. Its pretty much same as vehicle animations. Then i guess you would need to set up function orso.. i dont remember. Just look how trees are animated.
