You could provide reasons why it's impractical,in a war against well-armed aliens.

...well-armed aliens using projectiles that're so slow, you can actually see it move.

A Vulture is like a flying tank, but with slower rockets.
...
The Vulture is meant to be more heavy armoured because it has more chance of falling, because the missiles knock the vehicle backwards, and if something hits it with enough force, it will lose control and fall.

I mean, yeah, if the Vulture is that unstable, then it wouldn't really be the most efficient "Scarab on wings" ever...

But seriously. Why do you think it's not that effective?

I said if a BIG ENOUGH explosion were to knock it of course WHILE IT FIRED IT'S ROCKETS, it could turn over and fall, but it would be really stable. The type of explosion that I meant is one that could destroy some of the thrusters, and tip it up enough to make it try to stabilise itself, but because the thrusters are broken, it can't keep balance even.

Yeah, but that's because Halo 1 had parts where the Warthog was a vital part of some missions, meaning that if it were to have been destroyed, you have to do it again, and if your last checkpoint was when the warthog was highly damaged, then you'll have to restart the mission.

I think he meant that D40 has a lot of extra Warthogs lying around in naturally redundant places.
If you place brand-new Hogs around checkpoints like in D40, then you can still play comfortably while not making Hogs invincible.

-If it helps at all, CMT's (outdated/unsupported) SPV2 mod has damageable Warthogs, and they've pulled off their ideas well.
I've never had to worry about losing my Hogs, since there were always another one (or alternatives) lying around somewhere.

But back to the point. Bungie ... I guess they didn't think of that when they did Halo 1, and were too scared of killing friendly Marines to allow for destroyable Hogs. Dunno... Bungie logic.

The Lumoria Team and MatthewDratt have pulled it off before, though?
(though I guess it's a little different, since the Marine drivers don't get off when you "tell" them to..)

Headshot them.
Then type (ai_allegiance human player) to avoid getting turned to Spartan cheese by Marines AND Covenant.

Dumb reasoning. Last mission in Halo 3?, new Mombasa on Halo 2? Second mission of Halo 4? C'mon, have a better excuse.

I guess it was partly to do with a lack of space and time, but the warthogs are meant to be able to survive a fall from orbit (like the ODSTs), so they are naturally tough to break, and when Halo 2 came around, the UNSC could have been cut off from the resources to make them tough, and had to resort to using less tough materials.

Warthogs aren't intended to survive re-entry. Halo 2 Warthogs are simply destructible because they decided that things should be destructible in Halo 2.

Cortana said that warthogs survived a fall from orbit, and were used by marines after the event.

I don't remember, but it wasn't in any of the games. I think it may have been in one of the books, but I can't say for sure.

I think your render looks kinda cool. However, over all attention needs to be brought to the bad flow of this model.

I figure someone may find this interesting.
Album: http://s1121.photobucket.com/albums/l505/Skidrow925/Heavy%20Artillery%20Vehicle/

Overview from front-side angle.

Overview from rear-side angle.

Gun post firing, ejecting a spent round.

View of excavators and guns.

These are the current versions of the tires.

Album: http://s1121.photobucket.com/albums/l505/Skidrow925/Heavy%20Artillery%20Vehicle/

The main guns are final, the front end, the tires, the excavators, and the chassis are somewhat W.I.P, taking suggestions for the rear end, the front end, and elsewhere. Need ideas for a loading mech as well.

On the front, an offset-left driver spot, and an offset-right duel Gatling AA gun to be added.

As of latest picture, tri count is around 150k, obviously not final. The majority are simply there because I haven't been designing it to save polys.

Wireframes will come with the completed product.

Questions, comments, suggestions, criticisms, welcome.

It looks interesting but, what is it, exactly? Is it an excavator or mobile artillery?

They look like defensively-armed excavators to me...?

Like an excavator on a truck, or a human Scarab with tiny guns.
