It's a mobile artillery cannon. The excavators are to dig a hole in the ground for the cannons to recoil into. This is to keep the vehicle form flying into the air on every shot.

Hmm...Skidrow, imho the excavator thingies look really funny on it, until I saw what you said was the actual purpose of them, I thought they were just diggers for some random thing lol. What about pneumatic recoil dampeners on the sides that absorb the shock of the shell firing? Or maybe, as an idea to base off, this pic of a Nuke Cannon from Command and Conquer - look at its recoil dampeners :D Edited by Bottletopman on Feb 7, 2013 at 07:07 PM

Actually that yellow-ish colored thing on the back of the gun absorbs recoil through a pneumatic/hydraulic system inside the gun. It works with those green rods on the front.

I think it might be too big to be well-suited to any practical applications on a modern or post-modern battlefield. Massive gun platforms went out of style during World War II, when advances started being made in aerial bombing. Guided munitions and precision artillery rendered them largely obsolete.
But, as far as rule of cool goes, it gets a thumbs-up for creativity.

I tink those barrels would break under their own weight, and that for something so huge, you need some form of forward support to maintain accuracy. like this: Edited by SilentJacket on Feb 7, 2013 at 09:27 PM

But, as far as rule of cool goes, it gets a thumbs-up for creativity. Well with the range of stupidly far, it could be used for intercontinental barrages. I think. Haven't bothered to work on the rounds quite yet. Most;y it's just to one-up another duel artillery cannon I saw quite honestly. what ever happened to patience, its a wonderful thing to have... use it.
sarcasm aside you really should consider that many of us on these forums have other things to take care of that are more important that a video game.

Just for future reference killzone64, because I'm so anally-retentive :P a chain-gun is a electrically powered single-barrel gun where feeding is done via a chain :D
The Warthog uses a Gatling-style turret :P

the bloom is long gone now... but i have a few new issue's unrelated to the hogs, i am making seperate left and right turrets for my falcon i'm working on. i animated the left one and compiled my animations but it just sits there like this: even in the turret: and for some reason its firing from the frame intead of primary trigger... i have never done a turret before just other vehicles with turrets, i have no clue whats going wrong. the player doesn't even hold on in 1st person either: i animated it properly. i have absolutely no clue whats goin on. any hints or help is appreciated with this. Quote: --- Original message by: Killer5000 why dont you ever release your weapon or something reach tags because im a perfectionist and wont release untill they're finished. i plan to release a massive tagset by august. @waffles, ill have to go check my caps, halo seems to be really anal about them. i should go back and make an fp model as well. ill probably just attach the weapon mounts to the falcon and use scripts to attach the guns. currently i am using kirbys multi turret script to set it up Edited by killzone64 on Mar 10, 2013 at 05:43 PM

I forgot...I know it's possible to set a 1st person camera when driving, but what about the gunner seat? It'd be really hectic if you were right there, with the Warthog turret shooting away in front of your face, even if the armour plating on the sides would be a bit constricting :D

none of the stuff in those photos have actual shaders. i just slapped on some textures and called it good for the sake of testing, once i get the tags taken care of and in working order, then i will do shaders

ooohoohoo, first-person falcon gunner...nice, but how will looking around go? Will it be like Halo PC/CE style where you could whiz the camera right around, but you had to wait for the turret to catch up?

well i kinda went under the radar for a few days due to a large amount of schoolwork. but here is what I've been working on recently. and yes i know the smoothing on the fins is messed up ^ at some angles it looks great and at others it looks like total crap. i'm working on tidying up the shaders and getting the turret fixed (all of my turrets, both falcon and pelican, keep defaulting to the first keyframe in the animation and not moving after that). after that i just need to rig and animate the landing gear and include an interior and it will be complete. i might go a bit lighter green, but i need to check it out in a better lit area...
