OO, Christmas Lights.

Right now, with the added lioght, I think they look perfect. They just look beautiful, and fit in with the Covenan'ts colorful stuff.

I give you a thumbs up.

you could get really close results using a shader water with no OS.

No. I wont do anything for you, make research. I'm not sure how to do, but I'm sure you can make something similar. Try putting a shader water. Period.

That's super helpful. 'shader water' is such a specific title for a tagging method, you're amazing at descriptions.

I REALLY dig those Blue and purple.
The rest still look like transparent colored leather that emit light.

Well I've decided to keep the Green (They will wield plasma pistols) Blue (Plasma Rifle) and Purple (needler).

I like that idea.

your have to first de-select the rgb channels to edit the alpha channel - which is already desaturated to black and white gradients. If you are actually referring to the rgb channels, the red channel acts as a mask for the detail bitmap, and blue is reflection, green is illumination. see thelags thread on that. As far as photoshop goes, the desaturate command normally removes all color on the selected layer and does not affect the alpha channel. I use CS3 and CS5

The red and blue still look a bit too shiny in my opinion, probably because of the cubemap. Looking good so far!

try mine, soft cube with low contrast:

http://www.mediafire.com/?q0g5wfqzd8ar6g3

Set your perp color to grey
set your paralell color to charcoal:

My diffuse is dark, so you may need to play with your brightness, here's another for contrast:

Nice work, keep at it. Don't forget the smoothing groups. What are you planning for the rest of the chest area?

Also, this area:

Doesn't need that many bevels or the inset light(?).

You should always think about how it looks on the silhouette. If it doesn't really make a difference whether it's there or not, it can probably go.

Ah, sorry. I haven't played Reach at all yet.

Well, in that case the only real crit I have right now is that you should get rid of the loop in between these other two right here:

I think the fingers and arms look a tad too long compared with that ref picture. Otherwise it's pretty nice so far.
