Hellreaper is indeed assassinchief, don't see a reason to hide it.

That Halo Reach shotgun looks overly detailed imo, but this is something I find to be true in most Halo Reach assets. The game is just too "complicated".

That's also just the modeler.. He enjoys making things as complicated as humanly possible and then applying a turbo smooth with many iterations to ensure that it has a ridiculously large number of polygons... it gives him a satisfying sense of superiority on a forum that largely consists of beginner modelers...
i do the same sometimes ;)
Edited by G TheFlea on Jan 8, 2011 at 11:51 AM

being around beginner modelers to feel superior? noooo wayyy bro, this forum is filled with mlg pros, are you kidding me?

do you see this? I would never eff with that, bro. martyn should never eff with this guy either, he's be way out of his league

Good for your first model, though I would say take a look at Olympias, and add some smoothing. Critics love teh smoothing.

what's hilarious is the gun in that picture's not even an olympia. the olympia looks more like a beretta 682

So guys, what do you think of a exploding kunai ingame replacing the plasma grenades?

Warning! 3200,2400 (old picture i made last year) http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/716/kunai3.jpg

Textures are not mine, I only made the model of the kunai. I uved the model onto some random texture my friend gave me.

I wish I knew how to make those fattened 2d models, then I could make way more accurate stuff.

Also, can I find out what hellreaper thinks of me?

Totally off topic. As Dennis would say, you need to talk about weapons and not each other.

What if I said I was going to go shoot up a school? Would that still be appropriate and relevant information in a weapons thread>

I'm in a bit of a pickle.

Here's the gun:

I've built collision model and everything OK. Item Collection no problem.
In Sapien I've add the item collection. OK. When I try to compile the map, it says: Tried to add bitmap from group with no bitmaps (weapons\glock_handgun\bitmaps\glock_handgun) .Tried to add bitmap from group with no bitmaps (weapons\glock_handgun\bitmaps\glock_handgun) .

Suggestions please?

Just tool bitmaps weapons\levels\glock_handgun\bitmaps

But it said on the gun bitmap: skipping bitmap with non-power-of-two dimensions. Might that be the problem?

Heres the fix. Open your .tif in irfanview (what i use), photoshop or paint (not sure paint can do this) and resize/rescale to 512-512 recompile the properly scaled bitmap (you may have to re-UVW) and it should work now.

Also a notch-like indentation near the back end of the top half. And the parts that are normally blue have been slightly adjusted to Reach PR's shape.
E: Here's an updated version with the new handle.

Turn on a filter in the render settings so it isn't as blurry.

Also, show a wireframe and render on a grey background because from the way the shading is atm it looks a bit too highpoly, but can't really tell. The handle that is.

There are also smoothing errors at the bottom of the handle.

Trouble is, I have no idea about the rendering interface, so I just click Render to get pretty much the same picture as the Perspective window.

The smoothing error at the bottom of the handle didn't appear when I was viewing it in perspective and such, it only appeared in the Render.

Press F10 to get the rendering panel up and click the "Renderer" tab. Under the "Antialiasing" section there is a drop down box labelled "Filter", select "Catmull-Rom" from that list. Done.

And the smoothing error's usually show up during rendering. Make sure that are not duplicated verts around that area where is connects to the rest of the object.

Not done. In addition to what hunter said, Create a skylight anywhere within the viewport, then create a single Omni light in an appropriate spot. In the Advanced Rendering tab, you need to select 'Light Tracer'.

Then you can render.

Don't do clay render unless you light it properly with gloss. It will hide the errors.

Ok I managed to fix the shading issue on the handle, also added the front lower part of the handle which has a hole in it, however due to me having no idea how to make a hole through things I had to attach a seperately made ridge, and I could not weld the vertices at the points where they met with those of the main model, hence the unsightly seams around the ridge. If someone could tell me how to make a hole or weld vertices of originally seperate shapes I could remake the front part.
Here's how it currently looks like.
