@juan It's possible that a directX option may have caused this. If you go to your start menu>programs and find autodesk 3ds max there, you will see a program named "Change graphics option," Change the directx options and see if it is solved. If not, then max simply triangulated those faces. Right click the object > convert to> editable poly, and go under edges. Select those edges and press backspace. Try to make the left hand fingers look as relaxed as possible. Edited by ImBrokeRU on Jan 7, 2011 at 08:54 AM

Quote: --- Original message by: JuanQuote: --- Original message by: AGLion So that diagonal line is basically just the two triangles It wasn't like this before =( It used to only show me faces. More serious and correct reply: you have changed your viewport rendering drivers/directx settings. It does that to me when I try and use DirectX11 drivers, as pretty as the drivers make everything look, that is the only problem, especially when you are trying to sub'd model. There is an option to not show all of the triangles when using that driver but it didn't work for me :/

idk, ignore the blatantly obvious clipping in the fingers:
-sneepy sneepy- I don't wanna re-render because it takes too long... need some dual SLIs or some ass like that.
maybe i should ditch the left hand entirely. Edited by AGLion on Jan 7, 2011 at 08:28 AM Ultimately, I agree with broke. However I think it's better to get rid of the left hand entirely. I don't know why anyone would hold out their hand like that just because they're carrying a wrench. I also think its better to not have the right hand gripping the wrench like a gun, pointing forward like that. It would be much more interesting to look (not to mention more natural) at to have the right wrist rotated slightly toward the camera, showing off the wrench's features a bit. http://s188.photobucket.com/albums/z295/iron_clad_photo/animations/?action=view¤t=OPBMwrench.mp4 Like this. Keep in mind that the actual swinging animations are sub par, we're only looking at the origin here Edited by ICEE on Jan 7, 2011 at 01:47 PM

@Aglion: I wouldn't get rid of the left hand, I think it looks better like that (if you fix the way the hand is resting), without the left hand there it looks a bit awkward in my opinion. Edited by d4rfnader on Jan 7, 2011 at 02:26 PM

Quote: "Show some class; this is the internet" -slappy I just altered a Roosterteeth quote. Anyway, please keep my post in mind, everyone. To Juan: all 3d geometry is triangles, and two triangles make a square. When I said F1, I mean to search the word 'champher' in the help guide after pressing F1. Convert the box to editable poly or mesh. Press the edge-select button (I think it's also 2 on the keyboard). CTRL+click to select the outside edges of the box. Then you can press champher in that tools pane... and play with that.

Edited by ImBrokeRU on Jan 7, 2011 at 08:54 AM Thanks, that's pretty much the most help I've ever gotten off of these forums. Those origins aren't my best work; I haven't done much practice with melee weapons/non-shooting weapons.

That Halo Reach shotgun looks overly detailed imo, but this is something I find to be true in most Halo Reach assets. The game is just too "complicated". That's also just the modeler.. He enjoys making things as complicated as humanly possible and then applying a turbo smooth with many iterations to ensure that it has a ridiculously large number of polygons... it gives him a satisfying sense of superiority on a forum that largely consists of beginner modelers... i do the same sometimes ;) Edited by G TheFlea on Jan 8, 2011 at 11:51 AM
