I thought the first one was a pretty brave attempt.

Story wise it was decent and it added a cool suite of armoury items to the ever expanding universe.

I'm not sure about this one though it looks strikingly similar to Spartan strike a game I did not enjoy and those rocks are very disturbing.

Halo Wars 1 had a decent enough story, it made me care enough about its crew.
Campaign as a whole was a letdown. It started off great, with an exciting mission to retake some base. But it gradually devolded into "eliminate the enemy firebases", over and over again.

Multiplayer revolved around a handful of overpowered rush strategies, once you started playing at a higher level. It wasn't good Halo gameplay, it did not capture the feeling of the grand epic battles occasionally seen in the series.

Random stupid things like a prophet teleporting a bunch of wraiths in behind him, I mean really, who thought that was cool and made sense within the universe. Or one arbiter ruining a batallion or Scorpions. It just was ridiculous honestly, even if you knew how to counter them, it didn't make it fun. At least not to me.

Screenshots for Halo Wars 2 look similar to the first game. But I haven't seen firebases yet, so who knows, it might not be so bad.

I honestly thought it worked out. Being able to counter the special moves gave you all reasons to decide what you needed to work towards on unlocking first. Did you want to be the guy upgrading your special ability or work on blocking others? I thought it was fun and gave me a couple different ways to play. I always thought it worked best on 3v3 where when in trouble you could get your other team to help out if your strategy didnt work out.

Well yes, it worked from a rock-paper-scissor point of view.
But that doesn't mean the mechanics they used were true/realistic to Halo lore.
Personally didn't find it super duper fun when playing those games.

Honestly preferred more casual games where people just pit large armies against each other.

I think they could have kept the same rock-paper-scissor functionality without having to resort to an overpowered arbiter (and with overpowered I don't mean he cannot be countered), a wraith-teleporting prophet, etc. It was just too far-fetched to my liking.

One more realistic example: the arbiter could have simply been replaced visually with:
1 arbiter and a squad of spec-op elites wielding a variety of (heavy) weapons. Same functionality, but makes much more sense.
The unit-teleporting prophet was really just unforgiveable though. For him they could have thought up a radically different special ability. Something as simple as extending energy shields over nearby allied units for example.

it's kind of a joke used by the spanish people...

usually, you ask for a "link".. (or URL), this guy though it was funny to say "zelda" instead of "link" as a reference to the videogame, of course...

To clarify, because people often confuse link (The character) with Zelda (The name of the game, which some people think is the character), there's a joke that's very popular on hispanic american gaming communities to say Zelda instead of Link.

Leaked trailer screenshot:

I like how they're going back to the classic art style for this game. Though the actual in game style does appear to be a bit too cartoony.

@King: to me it just looks almost exactly like Halo Wars 1 in artstyle.
Both cinematics and during gameplay.

Thank god they didn't try to revamp red teams armour with a pokeninjagaiden suit.

Though I am sure they tried.

Would love to play in that armour.

Well, I guess the whole cartoony thing is just me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Still, I like that 343 is going back to Bungies art style, rather than trying to recreate everything visually.

E3 trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjN1eWhzPeA

"In Halo Wars 2, the Spirit of Fire and her crew, led by Captain Cutter, face a deadly new faction known as The Banished. Their chief, the Brute warlord Atriox, is both a deadly warrior and brilliant military leader in control of a massive army. The key to victory is knowing your enemy, but Atriox is a threat no one is prepared for"

Well, after a few hours I can say that this game seems very disappointing. They've made some pretty huge changes, some which I like but most that I don't. Luckily there are 8 months until the game comes out... so plenty of time to really change things.

I fear I saw a firebase in the multiplayer gameplay trailer.
It must suck for the creative assembly to need to stick to that old failed concept.

why do you feel it's failed? It's always worked well and is extremely easy to navigate with a controller. They've expanded on it with mini firebases now, which is nice.

I feel it fails in the following ways:
- Firebases were essentially a lazy, uninspired solution to base building on console
- Firebases have never ever been used in any other Halo lore that I have played or read (disclaimer: I have not yet read ALL books, but enough). This can be said of alot of other aspects that they threw into the original Halo Wars too.
- They look dumb, especially compared to what the first Halo Wars demo was showing (remember that amazing UNSC base, with little fine details sprinkled everywhere? A UNSC base that could have well matched those described in various books)
- Firebases were part of the reason the campaign in the first game was extremely repetitive. A significant amount of missions boiled down to "build up your firebase, capture a few more, destroy enemy fire base". In doing so, they missed a massive opportunity to focus more on large scale battles on the field, or even some more exciting potentially scripted events. The very first mission proved that the campaign could have been much better, but unfortunately they were unable to extend the quality of that level to the rest of the campaign.
- Even in the sci-fi context of the Halo universe, they make no sense and are unrealistic. By the end of the campaign you must have dropped over 100 of those bases -> how much bases can one spacecraft carry? Not only that, from an economic point of view it makes absolutely zero sense to develop such a technology. The costs would be ridiculous, especially if the spirit of fire is the only ship outfitted with them.

If it were up to me, Halo Wars wouldn't have firebases at all.
Instead I'd have something like this, let's just assume this is for multiplayer:
- Each map has one beautiful hand-crafted base per player, similar to the original one shown in the Halo Wars demo. The same slots that the firebases had would be available, it would just look ALOT nicer and have TONS more atmosphere.
- Instead of having other firebase capture points (or mini-firebases like they're doing now?) , I would have solely had resource capture points. Along with that I would have had a system in place that focuses on delivering reinforcements to the battlefield via dropships. This way you wouldn't need additional lame-looking firebases. An additional benefit would be that a game of Halo Wars would much more closely resemble a true Halo battle, in which dropships have always played a massive role.

Of course this is all just my personal opinion, but I feel the devs were lazy and uninspired. Unfit to lovingly craft an RTS game worthy of the Halo title.

Wow. That was like 2 steps backwards from the original Halo Wars. Infact if anything it just made me want to play the original again.

You couldn't select all units and cycle through them.
Power is now just cash #2. Instead of using power as a way to upgrade units, it now depends on your base.
The camera is absolute turd.
The framerate is utter crap even when nothing is happening.
Players no longer have the special ability (up on the d-pad).
You spawn with units (at least in this gamemode).
It seems like the people behind this were just like "LETS GET AS MANY UNITS AS WE CAN FIT INTO THIS THING." The menus are a clusterfk of endless units and upgrades.

That's gross, no wonder CMT artstyle looks like a 343i wannabee.

We all need an idol.

Also is the 64,99 just for the case or for a chance to buy the game via an ODST drop?
