The combat looks super bland right ow but it's probably on easy.
I love the idea of visiting the elite homeworld, I hope we get see the other worlds of the covenant in future games. It's about time we got to explore a real family planet.

He's probably playing on easy because the AI in the E3 demo and even warzone look more challenging.

So if they can take halo reach bipeds and textures why can't they use the fuggin AI behaviour too.
Honestly 343 has reached a point where elites are now just skinny grunts. Edited by SS Flanker on Sep 16, 2015 at 06:30 AM

Especially if I were up against steelix, that's just not fair!

But that "bashing through rocks" thing is just really stupid and gimmicky. I mean really, who finds that cool. The level looks fine, someone summed it up nicely by reminding them of Halo 2's In Amber Clad and Regret. At least their using 90% of the geometry, unlike in Halo Reach. Played that game again recently, finally realized why the campaign's gameplay bothered me for the first 4 levels. Speaking of Halo Reach, that game's ally AI is literally the worse thing I've seen since the stuff I saw in old Killzone videos. Brutes are kicking my face in and my allies are standing still, not noticing a damn thing. They were literally in front of a Brute Captain, acting like nothing existed in the level. I agree the rock smashing is gimmicky and kind of lame, but the concept holds some potential. It all depends on implementation in other parts of the game. If done wrong, it'll either end up like Halo's obscure ladder system that is mentioned once at the beginning of HCE or a "oh that exists" feature. The player of the demo was playing on a weak setting I'm sure and was going a path that lacked a great deal of action. The AI looked like they were having more fun simply because they were actually fighting head-on for the duration.

In terms of level design, it looked alright. Like DarkHalo pointed out, it definitely is a section reminiscent of the In Amber Clad area from Delta Halo. That being said, it looked quite chaotic, a lot like a lot of other encounters we've been seing from recent Halo games. It's harder to say though without actually playing it.
On the topic of rock smashing, it was definitely gimmicky, but I did think it at least looked cool. However it does pose the question... how the hell do the spartans get enough velocity to smash through the rocks? You'd think they'd just die from that considering a rocket launcher projectile head on is enough to kill them too. gg halo

If the game kept everything accurate, then multiplayer would be Sonic The Hedgehog with guns.

He isn't arguing about realism but is talking about 343 following their own arbitrary set rules and preset logic. It's like being able to jump down 30 stories in a video game but the moment you fall in a bottomless pit you die because reasons. Edited by General_101 on Sep 16, 2015 at 10:55 PM

Rock smashing is kind of weird, but there are other parts of the game where you can go through broken walls and smash vents. It's kind of cool in that being able to break open doors was something they wanted to do in H1, but then dropped. Long as breakable walls are things that are for extra exploration, I think it will be cool. It's always nice replaying something and finding whole routes you never knew about before.

I'm just tired of seeing Halo going through an identity crisis. If anyone was gonna make more Halos it would be Gearbox.
