I'm relived to see they added a second shield which is functionally identical to the first shield. We really needed that feature.

Quote: --- Original message by: Microsoft SamQuote: --- Original message by: Higuy In terms of level design, it looked alright. Like DarkHalo pointed out, it definitely is a section reminiscent of the In Amber Clad area from Delta Halo. That being said, it looked quite chaotic, a lot like a lot of other encounters we've been seing from recent Halo games. It's harder to say though without actually playing it.
On the topic of rock smashing, it was definitely gimmicky, but I did think it at least looked cool. However it does pose the question... how the hell do the spartans get enough velocity to smash through the rocks? You'd think they'd just die from that considering a rocket launcher projectile head on is enough to kill them too. gg halo Why are you questioning the logic of gameplay? If the game kept everything accurate, then multiplayer would be Sonic The Hedgehog with guns. There's obviously a difference in "logic" and "ridiculousness". Smashing through rocks, yeah, thats a little bit more the latter IMO. I mean if it's cool and adds something nice to the gameplay then sure, but if its just going to be a wierd gimmick then you might as well cut it. You want the meat in gameplay, not fat. This is fat.

Yeah, the feature is unnecessary. I guess that 343 is trying to make Halo 5 appeal to people who like interactive environments with this gimmick.

I don't even know why you guys are calling it a gimmick. It's a melee charge which you have to aim, which can only be used after sprinting for several seconds. It's main purpose is to be an additional offensive attack which varies from melee because it a) needs to be charged, b) has more range and c) you thrust forward and lose your ability to move for a split second. And oh Jesus, they tried to incorporate the feature more into the sandbox by having certain destructible walls (cough, CE) which more than likely can also be destroyed by explosives and gunfire. This rewards the clever player by introducing alternate routes in an encounter which were previously inaccessible unless you keep a watchful eye on your environment.
Is it called a gimmick simply because it's a new gameplay element introduced into the oh so pristine and flawless Halo franchise?

You're just charging through a wall to get an alternate route. I like something more complicated and rewarding, but if other people find it as a nice feature. Then I shouldn't complain if 343 adds it.

Is it called a gimmick simply because it's a new gameplay element introduced into the oh so pristine and flawless Halo franchise? It is called a gimmick because 1) it looks and feels like a move performed in a kiddy platformer game 2) it is inconsistent, why can only certain, clearly marked areas be destroyed. It's like those old hidden walls in Doom. Colored a bit darker to indicate you can use your new gimmick on it. 3) from that one encounter alone, you can see it is their new parade horse. It must have been in that demo 2-3 times alone. "Check out our amazing destructible rocks, 13 year old kids! You'll love it!" All that's missing is a nice double-jump. Oh and maybe a "glide" feature, cause why not! That'd be like so "fresh"! It wouldn't be a gimmick at all, just a new "fresh gameplay element" furthering Halo's flawless and pristine gameplay!

In the level "The Pillar of Autumn" there is a nice encounter, right after the cave with the Drones. In this encounter there is a crazy marshall with a crazy fuel rod gun and a crazy number of covenant, along with 5/6 marines. I've spent licterally hours trying to make that encounter without having the marines killed (I like to make them survive and give them OP weapons). But, believe me, porting a model from one game to another is a joke, but porting a set of hard-coded behaviour from an engine to another is a completely different matter.

Are you referring to the General (Gold armour)? 'Cause you only fight a field Marshal once right at the end of the level, and I'm pretty sure the marines don't follow you there (either that or they don't last very long, since many of the reach allies had terrible AI and didn't last long against the covenant).

I've watched this gameplay, other gameplay, and their breakdowns. I'm Disappointed. After playing Halo 4, All the gameplay was was target practice. How many shots can you land on the elite from 50 yards away before he thinks of moving to find cover? Oh wait, he moved slightly to the left, thats a hard AI to kill. The story might be the best part but everything else looks like complete crap and looks no different from Halo 4 gameplay. If this game is actually popular, which i doubt it will be long after the release before people grow bored, I will be utterly amazed.
Watch how the AIs react to being shot, how often they seek cover and work together. They barely do anything but stand there and wait to be killed. The only thing that will make it challenging is the rate of fire and once the pattern is learned, its no longer hard. 343 is a joke for adding pointless animations in like rock smashing. The only animation ever added to the Halo franchise was assassinations because who doesn't press that B button like a nuclear warhead? amirite?
It looks to me 343 is going after the same thing that they did with Halo 4 and that's looks, specs, and random things people like to watch instead of overall gameplay. There is no love to this and it's looking more like CoD with this aim down the sights, double jump and climb things, sliding across the ground. Let's be real, they've already added kill streaks to halo, it just comes in the form of care packages of weapons to a random ability. This is not halo and I'm almost embarrassed to still be a fan. The Multiplayer was so bad in halo 4, the best idea they could come up with is adding Ais to multiplayers, which is cool because its fun and will make great Machinima battles, but shows the lack of love in this game to make it better. Halo is now apart of a corporate franchise and will no longer be the game we all know, love, and grew up with. It will be made cheap with little grown effects but enough to keep little kids happy to have mommy and daddy buy this game. I don't even doubt that there will be major aim assist in precision weapons or that a precision weapon will be the only weapon you need and use in MP.
Rant Over and may God help the future of Halo. Although I'm sure he'd say -BLAM- it too.

The way they are implementing AI in Warzone is also incredibly uninspired. Basically it's just some AIs spammed in to guard some zones, and as mini-bosses defending some zones. It's really not that epic as there is no real purpose to them.
It's sad to imagine what they could be doing with such an engine. Eg. larger-scaled co-op missions for teams of say 6-10 players. With larger battlefields and real objectives and some occasional awesome scripted setpieces.
Just think of Halo 3: The Covenant's vehicular charge at the end, but on a larger battlefield with a larger team. They have the tech, but not the inspiration. Shame, shame, shame. Jingle.

The AI looks much improved this time around, there is some footage of the game being played on heroic and the AI looks far more interesting. Very little of the "stand there and shoot" behavior in most of these videos. When I briefly played warzone the AI was engaging, although not as good as H1, but no game has touched that IMO. Also there are no more kill streaks/care packages, and the autoaim seems much lower than Reach/H4. I don't really have high expectations for H5, even though I did enjoy H4 and place it right in the middle of the Halo series in terms of my enjoyment. But you just seem to be on the negative nancy train.

Xbox One not powerful enough to create larger battlefield with a larger team, too much from everything to be continued............. ---> Warzone AI has no path finding. Just wait to be killed. Campaign who cares. The Story from Halo started with Halo Reach and ended with Halo 3. Halo Story ended Bungie goes, 343i step in to reinvent the wheel called Halo.

Xbox 360's GRAW (Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter) already had large-scale co-op missions as I described. I think it even went up to the full 16 players in one human team, completing mission objectives against alot of dynamic AI.
I'm sure 343 could do it if they wanted to invest time and resources into it. But they are simply an uninspired lot, copy pasting stuff from CoD. Really, it's like they have no creative gameplay directors.
