I had to do a system restore so now i'm stuck on how to get 3DS Max 2013 and all the other autodesk software I used. I heard student licenses require an edu email now, something I do not have. help would be appreciated.

you can fake the info iirc.

You can try gmax, thats what im using, but if you really want 3ds max I think you can try searching google, try looking for the 2010 edition

gmax will shoot you in the foot with limitations. max 8 is ideal for CE, but you can use 2014 to get near identical results

What do you mean? as in creating a fake edu account?

EDIT: Nevermind, it seems I'm able to do it fine. now to go bug my dad about the adobe software he got me :l

Adobe software is so terribly overpriced.

I'm about a hundred bucks poorer for a gimped version of photoshop that insists on trying to hold my hand. At least it's better than their new subscription model, I guess.

Gimp is good if you need something that's really cheap and can do basic things.

Photoshop CC is a decent subscription plan. 10 dollars a month (120 a year)for an extremely good program, as opposed to paying 600 for a retail version of CS6. They provide new features quite regularly too, and the things you can do with it are almost limitless.

What is overpriced is Autodesk software. Especially 3Ds Max. The subscription model is outrageous compared to even their own Maya subscription program (indie one anyway) and many other industry standard programs that Autodesk does not own.

I couldn't agree more.

I was once told by an instructor that these companies over price there software to entice poorer people into a college just to get a free 1 yr subscription.

Basically the colleges or educational institutions pay autodesk a fee to autodesk for getting the ppl who want the software to join the colleges.

This weird cycle almost always is 100% fruitful since 7/10 people don't just join a college to get autodesk for free and are highly likely to pay to enroll in other courses the colleges have to offer.


The one way out of this is if you know a guy who knows a guy, whose girl friend went out with a guy who is related to a guy who works @ autodesk and can get you a subscription plan for free.

Having said that, I have payed full price for autodesk software, and I only did so to clear my conscience since in my early years I used a keygen to see if the software really was worth it.


So technically I stole to see if it was any good, and it wasn't as good for the price but I still payed.

Unless they decrease the subscription plan price of Max it's better to just buy a license that will last you indefinitely. Might as well do it soon too because there is rumors circulating that they are switching to a subscription only program in the coming year.



For all intentful purposes, GMax isn't really that bad. It's just a really early version of max, and if your trying to see if you like modeling or not, its a good route to try out.

If you still need 3ds Max drop me a msg in Xfire. I suggest you try Houdini, Rhinoceros or MODO as well.
