May I just ask is it normal for the frame rate of custom edition is lower than the regular version of the game?

Installing Open-Sauce 3.1 will reduce your frame rate unless you use this command "no_os_gfx".

Thanks! it works! What does this command do?

What refresh rate is your monitor? If it's 60hz then ~110fps is perfectly acceptable and does not warrent disabling open sauce's graphics effects.

Also, make sure you're playing this version of the custom edition campaign port:

austen1000 has done a great job updating the old port.

144hz. I play at 120 fps capped in 144hz mode with G-sync. It was dropping down into the 80s at times without that -no_os_gfx command. It's not really the visual frame rate that bothers me, it's the laggy feel from the mouse when the frame rate drops. I know 60 fps is good, but once you 'feel' higher frame rates, you don't want to go back. I am running 3840x2160 downsampled with FXAA, so that's why the frame rate was dropping a little on a GTX 780.

Thanks for that link to that campaign port btw, I'll look into it now.

Oh, also I didn't realize there were any graphical differences on the campaign maps I was playing, when using the command... I was pretty much happy with the fov, hud aspect and weapons movement differences. But if there's nicer graphics with open sauce, I'd like to cap the frame rate a little lower and play with that too I suppose

And you just reminded me to finish an OP of a thread dedicated to downsampled Halo CE bullshots.

To be honest, I was a little annoyed halo not compatible with 4x4 SSAA at driver level. The game must use deferred rendering? I couldn't find a driver bit. It's a shame. But downsampling from this res is equivalent to 2x2 SSAA and with DSR we can now run that at high refresh without ghetto downsampling at custom resolutions, so it's still pretty good.

My guide has some steps pertaining to the reduction of mouse lag http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/3066503/0/0/0/0

Turn off mouse acceleration in windows setting and set mouse speed to 6th notch out of 11

One thing I omitted was the -exec "int.ini" command. To disable halo's mouse acceleration, follow post #6 here follow post #6 here

other useful startup command include:
fov x
about (get's HAC 2's installed version)
cls (clears the screen of code)
multiplayer_hit_sound_volume 1 (makes your hit reg sound much louder in halo ce)

Downsampling AND FXAA together is OVERKILL and unnecssary, no wonder your fps is crap. Use one or the other, FXAA looks good with almost zero fps hit whereas downsampling looks best with dire fps hit. I'd say use FXAA, as you're missing out on some bloom and shiny stuff by turning off OS's settings.

OP might want this for all games.

Thanks, but already done it a long time ago. Don't do anything for halo though

It does, Btcc22 said so. Btcc22 is God. Do not question his technical knowledge of Halo PC/CE.

Also I tried myself and yeah, placebo affect notwithstanding it does indeed make a subtle difference when moving the mouse really fast

I think I did everything right, but I'm really not having much luck with that.

I did it completely objectively, since I placed my mouse right up against a solid object, then slowly moved it away, then quickly pulled it back up against the solid object. Alas, I am still facing 90 degrees too far from where I should be, so there definitely is still accel on there

do you have console enabled? the -exec parameter wont work without console

if it is, executing "mouse_acceleration" should return 0.0000000
Edited by Zetren on Jan 24, 2015 at 01:29 PM

Yeah, I have that enabled as well
