Hillbilly_Mudbog... such times...

This, or Blood Islands or Casualty Gorge (I think that's what it was called) are among the first maps I remember playing. Not bad maps either, considering people were still figuring out the HEK.

EDIT: where are the other old geezers? No one else was around at launch? :/

I remember hosting servers for the Zanzibar leak all the way back then. I could host 6v6 games and it was awesome.

The SPv2 Singleplayer Campaign was the first for me. Had tons of fun, messing around with the extras and the devtrainer. Extinction was probably my first Multiplayer map.

My first MP map was Danger Canyon, and my first SP map was Biohalo :')

It was a Singleplayer map I think... You spawned in a box with four giant heads... Or something. I forget what it was called, anybody help me out?

Extinction :v

I played Worm, which was included in the Portable version of Halo (at the time I didn't know it was illegal, I just got it off some website that had game downloads.)

For a while I thought that Worm (and a few others) were stock maps.


I remember my first time hosting a map, I just clicked Internet (for hosting) and was walking around in Battle Creek when I noticed a red dot in my radar, which turned out to be another player.

Blood Islands, still a great map.

Obsolete. I remember how badly I wanted to drive a pelican. I guess that ambition grew much further than that for me.

Chaosgulch. Fun times.

Definitely extinction.

I think extinction_ai was the first map I played after I went out to bestbuy and bought a copy of Halo PC. Last copy they would ever sell too. Got home, loaded it up, downloaded extinction_ai and loaded it up. I remember I started in the hanger and thought it was just the hanger and then some area outside, but not too big of a map. Upon leaving the hanger, I was very wrong and fell very far.

The absolute first map I don't remember if it was stock or not. It was a snowy map with a bridge over an area with two teleporters underneath or so. Haven't seen stock maps in forever short pf sidewinder and bloodgulch so I don't know.

So, I couldn't help myself, I had to figure out what the answer was here, because I have no idea. I'm twice the age I was when I first downloaded this map so suffice to say I couldn't remember.

But, I had a way to find out. See back in those times we had a hard drive that was ~5GB in size, meaning I couldn't keep all my halo maps on the disk at the same time. So what to do?

Burn them to CD-Rs of course!

So I found the answer to the question on my disk labeled "Halo Maps 1"

It was a bloodgulch variant which took two copies of Blood gulch, one a slightly modified standard layout, and another in a winter theme.

thank you so much for informing me i'm not the only one that did this. actually, i only did it because my computer didn't actually have network access so i'd get on my dads server and download stuff, burn to CD-Rs (we had literally thousands) and them put them on my computer. halo, cheat engine, and no-cd hacks were mostly what i did. still have hte cheat engine disc somewhere actually.

i remember 5 years ago i didnd had internet connection on my house, so i had to go everyday to a cyber-cafe to play some extinction with my USB :), oh man i really miss those old days
