Well, for hours (literally) i have been looking for that light bluish Covenant Energy Shield. and i have looked all over the tags section, but no luck, if possible can you please provide a link instead of advice please? its really important. :)
Thanks

Also, how do i make the .scenario file into a .map. the "tool build-cache-file levels\test\mapname\mapname Does not work, i look in both of my halo "maps" folder it is not there, and i tried to use "tool structure levels\test\mapname mapname" this is the error i get

"Couldn't read map file './toolbeta.map'
building intermediate geometry...
file_open('data\levels\test\timberland\models\mapname.jms') error 0x00000003 '
The system cannot find the path specified. '"

Any idea why? but when i load up Halo Custom Edition it is in the Map list. but not when i look in the maps Folder? why is that?

I believe the deployable cover thing is located under scenery\c_shield, something like that. You can rip it from standard bungie maps rather than find the specific tag in the tag section on this website.

If you want to make a map file, use command "tool build-cache-file awesome_levels\best_map_ever\best_map_ever"

That's the command, just change the scenario location and name.

That means that windows UAC is blocking your map from being in your maps folder. Go into your maps folder and look for the button called "Show Compatibility Files" in windows explorer. click on it and cut and paste your map to the halo custom edition\maps directory

this is usually caused by not running guerilla, sapien or tool as admin - you either need to do that or disable UAC entirely because its annoying

I have to run them as admin or they wont work, and there is no .map file it won't create it. only my .scenario. appears (i use windows 8 so everything has to be run as admin) but i do not have a .map file, i even did a full system search and nothing appeared. idk why but its not working

Aha!

Riding into the equation comes the British savior.

1. Rename your scenario to something potent, (atlisistheshizz)

2. Recompile your map,

tool build-cache-file levels\atlisistheshizz\atlisistheshizz

3. Now open up my computer and peform a standard or advance search for "atlisistheshizz"
or "atlisistheshizz.map"

It might take some time but once you have found the MAP file, right click and select open file location.

4. Take a note of the folder which is harboring your compiled cache file.

It maybe something like this, but it's highly unlikely,

(C:\program files (x86)\microsoft games\virtual store\halo custom edition) - Wrong :/

5. Grab the virtual store folder and pin it as a quick link, hence forth if you cannot find compiled tags just check in the virtual store folder and they will be there.

6. Usually anything which you compile or create from new goes into the virtual store halo folder, all you have to do is copy/cut back into the halo installation directory.

I'm away from my pc right now but when I am free, I'll toss you the actual directory for your compiled but missing files.

This problem is almost always found whilst using OS 8 or 8.1, supported OS's for the HEK and all of it's subsidiaries are:

. OS XP

. OS Vista

. OS 7

Bump me so I can repost.

Yes. This is what happens when you have window UAC enabled. If you don't know what that is, it's windows's crappy version of linux's built in file permissions system.

Programs that aren't run as admin can't write files to some directories such as C:\Program Files\. Files that are written there are instead sent into a symbolic link under the virtual store\ directory.

Disabling UAC stops this action from happening so you don't have to run programs as admin and deal with files going into the virtual store directory in the first place.

Just saying, by the way. It's up to you if you really want to disable UAC since it is a security feature, but to me it's just a hassle in my opinion. I'm not even really sure how this is supposed to increase security in any way, soo yeah.

I guess if you reaally don't want to disable UAC but still want to solve the hassle with write permissions, you could also reinstall halo and hek into a non write protected directory like the My Documents folder and optionally add a symbolic link to c:\program files\microsoft games\halo custom edition which would make it as if the halo's root directory is in program files but it is actually in my documents.

No problem dude.

BTW It isn't exclusively UAC, you can reconfigure your OS to stop using virtualstore folders.

And + in OS 8 just like the traction control in a Ferrari, you can turn it off, but it never really is off.

And don't thank me thank Altis also.
