im trying to download halo ce on win 8, it says something about the version unable... any help?

Install Windows 7 and the problem shall be fixed.

is there not an update for win 8? i mean, i just got this computer, didn't really want to overload it with os's immediately after buying it, like i have with my last 3. Is there any other way to fix the problem?

I have halo ce on windows 8 and it works fine. Never heard of this error. Can you take a pic?

Running it as admin/in compatibility mode as XP may help.

I have no problems installing Halo CE on W8.

hmm, I like windows 7, my college switched to windows 8 and I hated it the second I logged in. too much of a pain. im sure it will be safe to youtube how to setup dual boot from windows 8 into 7, when I feel comfortable, ill set a dual boot on my future gaming rig to add in 8

update: just found out pro and enterprise only support dual boot from the 8 side

This is irrelevant. Windows 8 is obviously not the issue here, as anybody who actually even slightly understands the differences between W7 and W8 would know.

Stop spamming reports with your ridiculous and pointless Windows 8-killing advice.

Anyway, bAUMER, Dumb AI may be right. Running programs as admin helps a lot of situations as a lot of programs require odd privileges. I can't recall Halo having this issue but then I installed it months ago so it's definitely worth a try.

Otherwise, make sure you've actually got .Net runtimes installed and of course drivers.
Also, if you're trying to pirate the game, that is probably the issue so umm... don't pirate.

Online is just a feature that some people can't care less about.

Have you tried updating halo?

It's not halo im having a problem with, I am trying to download the custom edition pack, and it is giving me an error. I have an acutal halo copy and have played no problems, just the ce update thing.

Download the exe installer and install the game with your "actual Halo copy"'s CD Key.

A picture of the error would help us allot.

your download probably got messed up. try redownloading halo ce.

The download hadn't finished, as is obvious due to the fact that there's still a PART file present and the destination file, which is the file you're trying to use, is 0kb as it doesn't contain anything yet.

Try redownloading the file and don't close your web browser/shutdown your computer this time.

Windows 8 definitely works better on an old-powerful windows 7 laptop than it does on these ugly underspec'd new laptops.

-when you use a separate mouse... of course.

I don't understand why anyone is beating me down about my laptop, given I do hate windows 8, I just wanted to avoid putting another os being that I just purchased it. I got the laptop for school, just thought I'd play halo on it since it works, although I still can't get the custom edition to work. Ive tried redownloading multiple times. Im not sure what it is.

finally got it to work, had to uninstall mozilla, then reinstall it, and redownload custom. Ithink there was some block thing mozilla had when i downloaded before. Thanks for the help everyone, now if i can just find a regular game that isnt rockets or race
