Hey. Just yesterday, I started using Linux Mint 15 "Olivia" on my Windows machine. I'm using Crossover to get Halo working on it. Open Sauce works fine on my Windows 7 Home Premium OS, but, it doesn't seem to be booting up with Halo CE (which boots up and plays just fine). It doesn't even show the Open Sauce version number in the corner. Is there anything that needs to be installed in my Halo bottle (a bottle is a individual emulated Windows environment, in order to maximize compatibility with Windows programs), like Visual Studio 2008 (thats just an example)? I know it's not everyday someone comes along and ask a question like this, but, I'm having trouble figuring it out myself. If all else fails, I can always run it on Windows 7, but, I would prefer to run it in Linux.

you might need VC++ 2010 redist
did you already try to use an offline directX installer?

this might help: http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?17146-Halo-on-Linux-The-Ultimate-Guide

i got halo trial working on linux, with PlayOnLinux.

you always could use virtual machine (E.G. virtualbox ), or dual boot.

if you are new to linux, you should first try to find these programs from your distribution's software repository.

@ OrangeJuice

Yeah, I did, but, it didn't seem to work. I manage to get it working by creating an override for the d3d9.dll to use the native dll. But, it wouldn't load yelo map files. I have no idea how I manage to fix that, but, it is loading yelo maps now. Thank you for the help.

@afD2345

Halo itself was working. It was just Open Sauce that wasn't loading. Crossover is a polished version of Wine, and purchasing it directly contributes to the wine project. But, I may check out that winject, anyways. Also, the optimization tips will come in handy. Thank you for the link.

Out of interest, why would you not use the windows os to run the game?
