So Windows 8 works well with CE, except it killed my 3dsmax. I really need to use 3dsmax, so I've decided to upgrade to Windows 7 :D The only thing I regret is losing the boot speed, seriously I press my computer's power button, and it's up and running within seconds :o And that Netflix app, the rest are all BS. I'm gonna have to re-install MW3, MW2, GTA4 and anything else, but it's worth it. Edited by Jesse on Apr 29, 2013 at 09:06 PM

yep
I'm just saying so that people with WIN8 and ATI won't upgrade their drivers to anything past 12-10, because that's what I did and then 3dsmax stopped working completely. Edited by Jesse on Apr 29, 2013 at 09:41 PM

2008 - technically not supported by Autodesk on W8.

Why are you using 2008? Max 8 and Max 2010 for me works fine on W8 laptop.

Win 7 always HAS been an upgrade to Win 8. Win 8 was made for people with ADHD who enjoy smearing their monitors.

Yeah, I don't have a touch screen so I really don't appreciate the Metro UI. I just finished backing up all my stuff, waiting for the WIN7 download to finish.

Just get an SSD and your startup speeds will be fine.

If I use 2010, it would really ruin the workflow between me and dsalimander, and anyone else that uses 2008 and collaborates on foundry or other projects :(

Then both of you upgrade? Really there's not much of a difference in upgrading through 3ds max versions unless you reach something like 2013 and 2014.

2009 was the best version for compatibility. It's the one I use.

I use max 8 so that I am able to use Blitzkrieg to export animations. Further versions do not support it.

CAD's compact animation exporter works fine. To be honest, I had max 8 installed just for blitzkrieg, but I never use it.

It's not like you can only have one version of 3ds max installed, just get 2013 and export to fbx if you need to.
And you can use the JMS exporter script just fine in all newer versions of 3ds. And for animation just use CAD's animation exporter script.

I wouldn't recommend 2013 for Halo stuff; anything beyond 2012 for halo in my opinion is ...

After spending 7 straight ours with Kirby on Teamviewer and Xfire, we finally got Windows 7 running on my PC. 3ds max works, now I just need to properly settle in...

Not 7 hours, and not straight either, we sat for an hour. first hour, collected a few drivers (And apparently lost track of them since ' someone' couldn't get networking installed because they lost track of those ones), etc. Next ~30 minutes, installed OS. Hour waiting for someone to bring a laptop so you could recollect various misplaced drivers. Hour later, installed all drivers required and 3dsmax. Then watched you do various things, I wandered away many times, etc. It still hasnt been quite 7 hours since you logged in this morning (around 20 minutes off still)

If you would've waited Jesse Windows 8.1 has an option to remove metro and get the Windows 7 start menu back that includes a giant compatibility update too.

Hey man, Windows 8 on a laptop + SSD is fine for school work and those microsoft office stuff. I'm fine with blazing fast boot time.

Feels the same. Quote: --- Original message by: Banshee64 better .NET functionality.
I suspect that this is what ruined max. Quote: --- Original message by: Banshee64 better drivers support, etc.
Because I upgraded to W8 supporting drivers, max got fuxed.

Imma purdy sure that its not the .NET functions... I had NET 11 on my windows 7, 3ds max worked fine. On my new windows 8 laptop I have NET 11, max no worky.... I just thought it was a CD key error... Same reason I can't use OS on windows 8 and halo campaign on windows 8... So I had to go fishing in my old files to get ye ol' 1.00 CE with version changer to play.
But it doesn't really fuss me much... I just can't use OS and I use Gmax anyways. :P
