Are you positive thats your full resolution? Thats a very odd res. You might also have to go into your video card options and mess with the screen position and things like that, do other games do this?

You sure halo isn't like doing this to maintain its aspect-ratio, therfore preventing you from seeing everything ingame as 'overly stretched'? Anyhow, if that laptop is running with an ATI videocard or chipset, you can change how the GPU scales things from the CCC.

Have you try to run under Windows XP, run adminstator or disable visual themes?

1366x768 is indeed an odd resolution, but used for quite a lot of laptop these days.
(including mine with 13" screen)

As suggested by most others, you probably have an ATI card, check your CCC (Catalyst Control Center) menu.
On the left side bar click "My Digital Flat-Panels" -> "Scaling Options(Digital Flat-Panels)" -> Put the slider all the way to 0% Overscan.

This should solve the problem.

How would having 60 fps give you "less" time to react compared to 30 fps? You can seriously see the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps you know. 60 fps is a lot smoother. I don't know where you got that from.

I still don't get the big deal about the black bars. You'd get used to them.

Try getting OpenSauce. OpenSauce allows CE to run native resolutions such as yours. 1680x1050 didn't work very well for me with vidmode, but OpenSauce fixed it. Might help you. If it doesn't, CCC settings adjustment might help, as suggested above.

I got it from common sense. 30 FPS is slower, ergo more time to react.

To give an example.

Halo 3 is locked at 30 FPS

COD6-8 are locked at 60 FPS

The former gives you a lot more time to think about what you do, whereas the latter is running around corners, getting your face shot off, rinse and repeat. Both are equally 'smooth', don't know where you got that argument from. I'd link you to a youtube video showing the difference between 60 and 30, but there's a mite of controversy on each one as to whether they're accurate or not.

I still don't get the big deal about the black bars. You'd get used to them.

You cannot simply show the difference between 60 and 30 on youtube since youtube converts all videos to 30 frames. 60 frames is much smoother than 30 frames, there is a difference.

You should set your screen resolution (in game) to 1280 x 720. I have the same screen resolution, and that's what I did. Worked for me.

Try it out, I believe the game should play in widescreen then.

Tried but the black bars were on the sides not top and bottom.

I'll try the OS

That just means halo did not set it to wide screen for some reason.

Oh, right. You need to use a resolution that's equal aspect ratio to your real resolution before using vidmode.

And while using vidmode, do NOT change in-game settings.

The first question anyone asks is, did you buy a Dell?

Because if you did, we've found the problem.

Naw, joke. Dells aren't bad. Its funny how horrible they are though.

But you know what isn't funny? Mac Compatability issues. They are the second largest cause of public stonings/crucifyings/beheadings in Russia. Every day(at least by CIA 'official' records; they probably killed a few too) an Apple employee dies because of public outrage against the product. Did you know that the writer of Independence day was stoned for giving the magic computer man a Mac. Because that is totally unrealistic. Aliens that fly in mini flying saucers and then massive flying saucers are real, but a man hacking into a network with a different OS to a Mac, with a Mac?

If it was windows XP he would've done it in real life. But. A. Mac?

Anyway, I personally never use a laptop to play games. Desktops are way more powerful; I never spend much time away from home anyway.

Ah, looks like you don't have to download Sauce.

I checked my vid settings again and Halo natively supports 1336x768 :D
