Personally I liked the hologram Heretic fight, was something new and rather unexpectedly pleasant. Yes Tartarus was annoying and punching the Prophet was fun as hell, but I'd take a boss fight over a fetch quest/button push mission anyday. Do you have any idea how many friggen buttons you have to press in Halo 4? Let's keep them there, alright?

That's why it should be done Halo 1-style, where pushing a button doesn't force the player into an animation sequence in the middle of an on-going game. Try making it different objectives such as "destroy these power nodes powering this node to disable the sentry emplacement protecting X facility, and while you're at it, remove the engineers from fixing it". I think it's doable (like the Maw example I gave) but it takes time to polish it into a good gameplay experience.

Even if you have to implement a boss fight, I would suggest to make it like the Heretic fight or the Punch-the-Prophet type where your boss fight not only involves the boss but also his henchmen (be it holograms or not) assisting him in the fight.

Edit: When I said "the Maw example", I meant the throw grenades into the engines' exhausts part...

Boss fights are what make MatthewDratt's projects unique. They were in Lumoria, they're in Takedown, so you can assume they'll stay.

I'm not a huge fan of my assault rifle feeling like I'm throwing rocks at the boss, but if that's how it's gonna be, then oh well.

bullet sponges are bad and monotonous.
a suggestion for a future fight:
initially, boss gets into vehicle to kill player
vehicle destroyed, boss gets out and rushes player
after enough damage, boss puts up invulnerable shield and covies enter the fray
boss gets out of shield, chases player
repeat 3 times
boss activates cloaking device and picks up beam rifle/some weapon with an obvious tracer round
shoots semi-accurate shot, telling the player where the boss is, player opens fire
boss dies

mix and match, but the above would make for a more interesting fight.

I didn't design any of the encounters for Lumoria. I merly did the cinematics in the last 2ish months of production

I'm aware my good sir; however, you were part of the production team. Frank O Connor and Kiki Wolfkill are congratulated for making Halo 4, but no one else on the 343i team was congratulated anywhere except the credits and the few Vidocs they made. So, make a business move and take partial credit.

I had finally found the time go ahead and play this map, and I just wanted to say it was a job well done.
Boss fight was a little tedious but it did give that relief when I finished it.

Someone uploaded a file to the FTP called "takedown projectlawson.rar".

THIS WAS NOT ME. I already uploaded the YELO and MAPS to the halomaps FTP and the FTP got cleared. WHAT IS THIS FILE AND WHO UPLOADED IT?

I didn't think .rar files were even allowed on Halomaps so I don't see how it could be accepted /:

E: Oh nvm, according to the upload page, they just recompress files into ZIPs if they're uploaded in RAR format so it will probably be allowed.

That would REALLY depend on how well of a cover we can get, what kind of terrain we're fighting in, if we can board the Scarab, and how we are supposed to take it out.
If you can perfect those four points, then it should be an epic encounter :D

edit: Nope, didn't watch video. What you have there looks pretty cool, almost like a boss battle. It'd be nice to have charging in guns a blazin' result in sudden death for once.

I see... (nah, I don't really mind. But then again, I've never played Halo 2's campaign before so I don't know how boring it can be.)

Lawson is in a modified Danger Canyon, but that's already released. I think this test is for Extermination (its sequel), which may or may not be in a custom BSP.

I can't model the BSP for you but feel free to talk to me on xfire with any problems/questions or if you need some critique/suggestions.

Also I think this would be great in the right BSP. Especially if you do what Bungie did and foreshadow the Scarab by having it make sporadic appearances in the map beforehand somehow.

you could make the encounter method be like the buildup in gears of war 1 with the corpse, fight, run, fight, run, get pissed off and kill it, and stand epically like a boss as it comes up to take you with it, and u look calm and cool, lol gears 1 had a good storyline, and I thought up the corpser method. it screws with ya randomly til you finally end it all. scarab could be similar, you fight and it pops up and.... figure out the rest...

The problem with that is repetition. It gets really boring doing the same sort of thing over and over again ("fight, run, fight, run")
