Not long from now Halo Anniversary will be coming out to celebrate the game that started it all. With new graphics, physics, and online co-op, Halo CE Anniversary adds onto the best FPS experience of all time.

Sounds great doesn't it? As many of us know, Microsoft Games hates PC gamers, at least when it comes to Halo. Having not released PC versions of the last 3 games in the series it no wonder fans on the PC feel left out. But it seems that the next game: Halo Anniversary may have a chance of being ported to PC in the future
(http://www.gamerzines.com/pc/news/halo-anniversary-pc-port-hint.html). But then again, there have been hints about PC ports of the past 3 titles, obviously to no avail.
But if they do port it to PC in the near future, lets home they give it custom capabilities.

If it's ported to the PC, the next goal would be to get an editing kit for it. It would also be nice if the game and maps were backwards compatible IE, a Halo CEA player could join an HCE server and vice versa.

Well apparently you can press a button while playing that switches between the new graphics and vintage halo 1 graphics. This tells me that there is quite a bit of backward compatibility.

These games are not going to be ported to the pc! If we want these remade maps on the PC, we should try remaking them for ourselves already.

Justify your response.

I don't see a reason why they wouldn't. 343 is trying to separate itself from Bungie. It also has obvious support from the CEO of at least one of the production partners. I think it could be a possibility in the 2012-2013 time frame.

I doubt it will be ported to pc and I HIGHLY doubt it will come with an editing kit if ported, and, if it does have an editing kit, it will be extremely limited, microsoft fears modding.

^Yes, exactly. Ever since the failure of H2V, MS decided to avoid porting any more Halo games to PC. Sure, it's a disappointment, but what're you going to do, bug MS/Bungie until they do port it? Bungie's moving to PS3, and MS just wants more money. They don't give a damn about the customers until several thousand people complain.

Its not right man. Still there is a bit of hope. Halo 2 vista may have been bad but we got a new crew working on this now. You never know.

If you think about it Halo 4 is going to be the big money maker. Halo Anniversary isn't supposed to generate huge amounts of cash for them. They already cut the price of the game by about 30%. It they have any sense they might want to throw us a bone this time. In my opinion it doesn't make sense for MICROSOFT to not release games for their biggest product: WINDOWS. Its not like the PC Gaming sector is not existent, it is probably one of Microsoft's biggest untapped (at least recently untapped) resources.

Just gonna throw this out there, but if any of you guys watch Roosterteeth's AHWU, Jack mentioned in the last one (or the week before, dunno) that there were rumors that windows 8 might support 360 games. I have no backup for this information, but I just wanted to share.

E: A quick google revealed this:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/12/xbox-360-pops-up-in-win-8-code-console-game-compatibility-comin/
Consider the source.

Do you mean be able to read 360 disks or be able to run games that the 360 can handle?

If this is true then Microsoft could use a PC port of Halo Anniversary as a sort of "launch title" for the new combined gaming experience.

Consider this as well: http://www.play.tm/news/33874/windows-8-a-unified-os-for-pc-mobiles-and-consoles/

Looks like Microsoft wants to make the "Xbox 720" run on Windows 8. This could open the door to a HCEA port and possibly even Halo 4 being released on PC.

inability for a PC to handle the graphics

Whoever said that is an idiot. Look at the last few Halo games. Halo 3 was nowhere near Crysis and they came out in the same year. And people (granted, 1 in 1000) could run that game. Now, in 2011, lots more people can run Crysis (and even max out the settings). If people could run Crysis, they could run Halo 3, and ODST is basically identical in terms of graphics. Halo Wars isn't too special in game terms. The cinematics were amazing but the ingame graphics weren't anything to get all excited over.

As far as the ability to run games, the PC will ALWAYS beat consoles. You might need to upgrade your PC, but it's generally cheaper than buying an entire new console.

I agree. Its an obvious excuse keep titles exclusive to the 360.

I wonder if that code you posted was actually from the 360 itself, the newer 360 dashboard I saw pics of had a similar ui design to windows 8.

I'm not sure what maps you guys are talking about but if you mean multiplayer maps, those are for Reach not for Halo Anniversary. They took the thing everyone remembers fro the first Halo and removed it.

343i develops the game, such as Bungie. Microsoft publishes it. Microsoft will keep it a 360 exclusive. Besides the Multiplayer is connected to Reach.

Multilayer inst connected to reach. They had to accommodate changes in the engine.

It uses a modified version of the reach engine for multiplayer yes, but they are not identical and they are not "connected"

If it is a modified version, then it is connected.

They officially announced that it is a Reach DLC pack.

But I guess they could edit the engine abit to port it. They could have SP and MP completely separate .exes like the Call of Duty PC ports do.
Edited by goldkilla88 on Jul 18, 2011 at 12:41 AM

Actually, as far as I understand, the maps will be in Halo Anniversary AND a Reach DLC pack. It'd be kinda dumb of them to have it as a Reach DLC only. What'd the point in buying a full game just for a short singleplayer campaign?
