custom edition is probably the most unheard of halo game there is and when i was browseing noobs on xfire looking at join dates i couldnt help but wonder, how the hell did they all find CE. so now im asking everyone, how did yall find custom edition?

i found it youtubeing secret rooms and glitchs and found a video for yoyorasts secret room so i instantly downloaded it JUST for that, in my defence it was back in the time when all that crap was popular :D

My friend was on this one website (forgot the name) and he was trying to download ISO games for his hacked PSP. The site had a list of games available for download and for what systems. He told me that they had halo (I thought he meant Halo 2) and I was interested immediately. I was a bit of a computer noob but by sheer luck I managed to download and "install" this copy of Halo Custom Edition. I began playing against people in beavercreek and then Hang em High. I was surprised when I could 'snipe' people with my pistol fairly easily. Eventually I found out that it was illegal to have that cracked game (portable) and I went out to buy the real game at Best Buy. I had the portable version for about two months, and during that time I was not able to use Xfire In-game or FRAPS to record video which made me sad.

EDIT: Unlike my internet peers, I didn't start Halo on the PC with Halo Combat Evolved or even Halo Trial. I got straight up into the action.

Halo Combat Evolved: We were talking about star wars, and my friend brought up the energy sword from halo. First time i heard of it (we were in 3rd grade rofl)

Halo Custom Edition: In 6th grade, my pals were mentioning flying pelicans and drivable scarabs ^.^

I remember looong ago, I had discovered Halo Trial and through a series of events, I became a well-renowned Halo Trial modder, creating everything from racetracks, to singleplayer missions, to christmas mods, to a theme park with working rides. When I outgrew Trial and moved on to PC, I learned about Custom Edition through some internet searching and also from fellow modders. I soon left the modding scene and started playing CE, and tried my hand at making a map, but failed miserably. A while later, I decided to try again, and created my first map, Deserted. I made another crappy map and took a long break from CE. I came back and got heavily into CE, and learned a bunch of more advanced tricks and techniques, thus becoming who I was before leaving Halo CE during my largest project ever.

And for you guys that ask, no I'm not coming back to Halo. The adult life is beginning for me.

Well it all started in 2008 with a thread on /v/. They had a cracked version of the game in the OP and I decided to try it out since it was 55-75 megabytes and the custom maps were held as a separate download. 15 minutes later after both the downloads were done. The first map was Tallon IV Overworld pb1. It was the best experience I ever got from a Halo game. Then 1 year later at Best Buy I saw one copy of Halo PC left. I bought it and never regretted that purchase.

I had my own xbox, and a copy of Halo 1 and Halo 2... this was about 4 or 5 years ago. One day I was sick and bored and went with my mom to Office Depot, saw the game for PC (recently got my own laptop, so hey why not) and got it. After a while and playing some mods on it, I looked up halo pc mods and found a Halo Custom Edition trailer of Hugeass.

Got really excited, came here, and then after that I don't really remember much up until now.

I got my first Halo game on either christmas 2004 or 2005, it was Halo 2. I loved it and when I got a new computer (which is a total piece of crap) in May 2006, I instantly looked for the game on pc, and found Halo Trial. Walmart had the full version, so I was saving my money for it (I was 12) and by the time I had it, they got rid of the game! So after couple weeks my dad and I got it in the city at Gamestop. I played that all summer, and heard about custom edition, but didn't understand where to buy it! So in september I began modding Halo pc with custom weapon skins that didn't look 110% crap, and moving verts to change the models. I even made the assault rifle into a spiker. Then eventually I figured out custom edition, and the first 2 maps I downloaded were Cityscape Classic and Coldsnap. I still remember I thought there was something wrong when I was flying a jet in coldsnap and seen never ending expanse.

My very uninteresting story.

Halo 1: I was introduced to Halo 1 Xbox at age 3, and have been a Halo fan ever since.

Halo 1 PC: about two years ago, after getting bored of modding H2vista, (pelicans, dualwielding snipers, scarabs, and what-not) I had heard (on the website that i learned how to my H2V on) that Halo 1 PC had different stuff, and was easier (i was worse, lol.) to mod. So, I acquired the game and started modding.

Halo Custom Edition: One night, at about 10:30 PM, I was browsing youtube, trying to find an easier way to make a pelican flyable, I noticed a video show-casing not only a Pelican, but a Longsword! I immediately had my doubts, and clicked the video, which turned out to be a video showcasing "Hugeass", which I downloaded along with a not-so legal HCE, and a few other maps.
Then, after about a month of downloading other peoples maps at 52.4 Kb/s, I decided I wanted to know how, and downloaded HEK and registered on the forums, (I owe, pretty much everything I know about mapping to Gamma, he replied to ALL of my threads, I swear he was watching for them...) and learned to map. And then, one fateful night, playing H:R, I fell in love with the "Mass Driver", and the rest... Is history.

TL;DR, its uninteresting, and irrelevant.

I had never originally liked halo, in fact I hated it, well halo 2 (I still do truly hate halo 2). I had never played halo 1 because no one bought those games at my school (here in hillbilly country, the chillins join wannabe gangs, smoke pot, and steal lawn ornaments rather than play video games, my clan of nerds swiftly continues to dwindle as it is). about two weeks after halo 3's release I went over to my cousins' house (they're three brothers) to hang out and when they heard I I didn't like halo they freaked because they were addicted to halo 3, and were currently trying to beat it on legendary (splitscreen) and were on the level "The Covenant". they had paused the xbox right at the cutscene when I got there so when they finally convinced me to grab the second controller I got the beginning level experience. Needless to say with me playing as Arbiter we completed the rest of the campaign by 1 am (I got to their house at 4 pm). After that all four of us fought each on forge on last resort. After I got home I soon realized that I too was addicted to halo, but I didn't have an xbox. About a week later I bought halo 1 for pc at teh wally mart and played it non stop on my crappy computer with horrible graphics (everything was grey, the elite shields never shown up, none of the lights on the plasma pistol (like the circle-ey thing on the top of it) or the plasma rifle, the needler needles were white, need I go on? Still, I was addicted to it and began looking for easter eggs on youtube (mainly the grunt easter egg at the campaign end). Eventually I saw a walkthrough of cmt spv1 and clicked it, when I saw it my brain was all liek EPICCC x 5003 waffles (thats really epic in case you don't know) and then, (after about a year of nonstop halo 1 and stalking the halomaps forums) I saw a trailer for spv2, this one to be exact: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uesv0lFk1Lo. So in (i believe) july 2008 I finally downloaded CE aswell as cmt snowgrove and the entire spv1 campaign. I played it for quite awhile until I finally joined the forums, and a year later, when I got my newer less crappy but still pretty suckish computer I started modding. oh and for the record that half of that forum stalking year I spent on my new xbox playing halo 3... so I'm not that big of a creeper rite?

I got halo PC in like 2005 for the family PC, but the PC was too terrible to run it, so it sat in my room until 2008 when I got my own PC and then I installed it. I got bored of playing it, and my friend had told me about modding (he was doing some map making for warcraft). I got started with BG modding on halo PC, then eventually found custom edition on youtube. I believe the first map I downloaded was hugeass (go figure) and me and my friend spent a long time just launching nukes everywhere.

Well, I started playing Halo PC back in '02 (illegal copy) until
Quote: --- Original message by: MatthewDratt

showed up. So I Googled HCE, found this site, DL'd the setup and tried to play it...until one day in '03, after an update, the game tells me that I have an invalid CD Key.

I must've spent at least 2 months searching for the game in my local mall (EB Games/GameStop, Zellers [lol], etc.) until I walked into Wal-Mart and saw a single copy of Halo PC. I kept begging my mom to buy the game, considering that I told her that I cannot play the game to due a fake CD Key (her not being a computer nerd like me :P), so I finally got it for ~$40 CAN (I still had the receipt...until I lost it very recently >.>). I reinstalled both my Halo PC and CE with the legal Key, and started modding :D

After five years of playing on both PC and CE, I decided to try my luck at making a map (modeled after the much more popular "box maps") and came up with this: Desert_Battleground http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=3609

After getting a few hundred downloads and a high user rating, I thought it was time to modify my map. Needless to say, it was a failure, considering I knew very little of Halo's netcode (the map now had AI). The map in question was released on my birthday (yay, I thought at the time), along with a New Mombassa varient: Lockdown_Mombasa http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=4515

Again, needless to say, I got many downloads and high user ratings, so again, I tried my luck at modifying instead of building. Lockdown_Mombasa_V2 was more of a hit than the same-day release of b40-arena, but both maps didn't recieve much attention.

Again and again, I kept on modding and releasing, each map progressively getting better than the last one. And now, with ten maps and a Map Pack under my belt, you have me as I am today.

For a full list of my maps (Yes, you can laugh at them too), here's a link: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?search=UBE+Chief

TL;DR
Illegal copy, bought legal one, started modding, history.

is true.

I think that I will start randomly changing the pagination number so that people will never know where the page break will occur just to eliminate the false sense of pride garnered from posting on a new page and showing how foolish it is when the post doesn't appear at the top of the next page.

How I found out about Halo: When I heard of the change in FPS shooters from a friend, he mentioned Halo had a new gameplay and I got excited.

How I found out about HCE: After a while into playing Halo PC, I got bored of the original "tagset" (Weapons as I called it then) and wanted something new so I searched up mods for it. Then I found HCE under this site and stayed here :)
- Also the story of why I signed up for the Forums here :P

I brought Halo Trial into my old high school in QLD, then a few (10+?) "pirates" brought Halo CE in, i was using the pirated version for about 3 months, then came here and found HEK and wanted to have some modding fun, as confused as i was back then, not knowing it was pirated, i downloaded the legit version of Halo CE here, instaled that version used my own key, (my disk is either damaged or cab4.cab is currupted (dangreadonly...), now im producing my own content on the legit version (i'm still using the pirated version for free time at my curent high school, unfortunantly *growlsdangitregestrykeys*)
