They're helpful, but less helpful than videos with audio.
If they use notepad to type it out that's okay, but it slows the whole process down.

Use text overlays to name any hotkeys or what you say etc etc.

i prefer video and voice, it makes it easier to follow.

The easier the better i always say.

It normally depends on whichever way you learn... either visually, sound, or text... or a mash inbetween the two. I did a report on this in school last year, and everyone does it differently.

I learn visually, and while watching tutorials I make sure theres nothing I missed if they clicked something or the other. However, the best tutor isn't a video or anything of that, the best tutor is someone thats there to answer your questions when you don't know something. You get direct feedback instead of having to figure out yourself, which could possibly take more time.

then that is a bad tutorial and shouldn't be used. also what Higuy said.

I like tutorials with text because it's easier for me to translate into french. :)

Hate video tutorials with or without sound. Just write it down.

It's easier to follow, more fun, and feels more friendly if you have voice. Assuming you can actually hear them.

When I was looking this morning on how to make a dedicated server wich I still don't know how to do. I was annoyed by the fact I couldn't hear the person what I was ment to do. It's annoying watching someone weighting the instructions with u r mnt t d this it's easier with voice.

I like PDF tutorials a lot. They are usually sufficient and allow the reader to figure a lot of things out on their own while still using guidelines.
