It makes editing anything a pain with the HEK. HEK+ information all goes to a stupid compatibility file located in a Virtual Store folder, even though HEK+ doesn't running in compatibility mode. It's ridiculous mainly because it makes debugging miserable. Why does Windows 7 do this? Why can't it just let files go to their intended folders?

Because UAC, User Account Control, is there for the sole purpose of making it harder to mess with the computer (in both malicious, and intended ways (more of intended ways than anything though, I truly hate it, Server 2003 R2, ftw))

you can try reinstalling halo inside your 'Documents' folder so that you don't have to elevate your privileges to mess with stuff, or lower your computer's security by just disabling UAC (I don't think halo cares if you move the game folder unless your updating afterwards, cause I use to just run a clean install of HCE and then run it off my external after the CD-key was in registry instead of copying the 8GBs of tags and such)

I ended up running it all as the administrator and troubleshooting the program of compatibility. I suppose it then recognizes that the program is okay and stops compatibility nonsense, though it still has issues with my moving files from my jump drive of my old computer to my new computer that pertain to HCE.

Install this, it COMPLETELY allows you to own the folder or anything, I use it ALL the time.

I like both. I still like XP more than W7 though. But my desktop has 8 GBs of ram, and 64bit XP doesn't run really at all on this thing, so I tried Server 2003 R2 32bit with PAE.... PAE is no where near as good as real 64bit for using your ram, etc. My laptop runs XP, my desktop changes between Server 2003 R2 and W7 (I have volume licences for both with my school, so why not? lol. I have 200 XP installs even lol) My laptop can't watch 1080p videos in W7, but it can in XP (I'm even using custom and hacked drivers for my laptop because not one peice of its hardware supports windows XP lol, and it still runs better)

The good engrish... somehow, by changing software, your hardware will transform.. you do know that doesn't happen, right?

What you mean to say, is your getting a new computer with Windows 7, because that computer has 950GBs of hard drive space. Anyways, why not just wait another year till Windows 8 comes out?.. Why bother upgrading OS' when a new one is coming out in a year lol

Because Windows 8 is going to suck. Apparently it's supposed to "focus on gaming" and we all know what that means. It will be H2V all over again, except with an OS.

No, Windows 8 is meant to focus on tablets.. I believe that new windows live setup is planned for all versions of windows. Anyways, W8 doesn't have much new stuff in the leaked demos, or information leaks. The only offical video is all about tablet crap that they are trying to turn your computer into the Windows Phone. Some of the leaked information sounded nice, but you know the good features will never make it into the finished product, etc.

Also, how are we going to turn this Windows Discusion into a HCE one?...

So, one that last note, in the leaked info, Windows 8 is going to have "Windows 7 mode" similar to Windows 7 and "XP mode".. So, this means that they must be expecting incapatibilies with programs meaning you might need to run HCE in Windows 7 Mode (there, post is offically HCE related)

What I can tell is that the screen will change depending on the hardware. So if you get at tablet Windows 8 you will get that ugly looking screen, while if you have a laptop / desktop you will get the normal screen (Windows 7 syle).

Whatever else they decide to add. Just like upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7 really only add libraries and a new theme.

It won't be if they include terminal. Anyone know if they did? (from the betas) Cause if they did, you could install WINE and run Halo in there (making this thread moar appropriate for halomaps than it has been)

No, no. Windows 8 will not just "focus on gaming" (read: turn your PC into a giant, expensive Xbox 360), but will also "integrate with the cloud" (read: make Microsoft shut down torrents and cracks forever and make you shell out $$$$ for monthly subscriptions for any software(including games such as Halo))
Hell, you will probably have to pay a subscription for the OS itself and your PC will have to boot up over the internet.

Best Windows OS ever. I still prefer linux. Also, if you have a computer with high specs, you can't really rely on XP, because 64bit XP sucks. Server 2003R2 32bit with PAE is decent, but after a month of using that I really decided I needed a 64 bit OS since PAE didn't cut it. 3dsmax and photoshop where pretty mad that they didn't have a clue what OS I was on lol; silly programs.. not understanding server OS'. (Am I the only one tying HCE into this thread?..)

Anyways, I'm gonna get Windows 8 when it comes out (free too) My college has deals with microsoft where we get soo much crap lol, I'll have 2 Volume License Keys for Windows 8 (one from the 32 bit download, and one from 64 bit) for 50 installs each. Why does each student need their own VLK?..
